Windows Updates fail to install when your PC hardware is not compatible with the software update. This is usually based on issues Microsoft knows, and the feedback it gets from OEM and Windows Insiders. Windows Update comes with its own kill switch built into the KB patches or any update which triggers in case of hardware compatibility issues.

This issue has majorly popped up for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines which were due to upgrading to Windows 10. It triggered this kill switch for Intel 7th generation processors, including Sky Lake and Kaby lake architecture, and the AMD Ryzen processor line. Because of this, no more updates were rolling out for these PCs.

How to block the unsupported hardware popup in Windows Update.

I googled and found an open source program called wufuc v0.7.1.81. I installed it and it worked. I had 102 windows updates. No more annoying pop up.

Download open program: https://github.com/zeffy/wufuc/releases/download/v0.7.1.81/wufuc_setup_x64.msi

Download in zip file: https://github.com/zeffy/wufuc/releases/download/v0.7.1.81/wufuc_v0.7.1.81.zip

Some people have found removing one or all of the below KB patches resolved the issue and allowed them to continue receieving updates.

I did not have have any of these KB patches in my list but I still had the annoying pop up.

KB4012982 KB4015549 KB4054521 KB4012218

This, bothers me for a looong time and have read up a couple of months ago on Github. Guess, who likes Github and took them over? Yes Microsoft!

And they will not remove that there and just patch it up by a new build. Enjoy this for a long you can right now. Just plain stupid because the hardware can and will be running fine on Windows 7 or even Windows 8(.1). Hey, marketing you know. So, better to shutup10 (and other programs to disable telemetries in Windows10). It just went like this:

Microsoft: "hey Intel and AMD, listen up! With Windows10, people can't run Windows7 and 8.1 on the latest hardware. Like that? We will build in some ad./spy features in Win10 and people are going to buy anyways right? "

Intel AMD: "Good plan, do it up"

Now, do me a favor and watch this video you all. It is a lot of work to do so, but at least you have a 'better and a save' feeling about your operation system. I am running Windows 7 and Embedded.

That's why ghosting your hard drive is a good thing. W7 all updates ghosted to a flash drive so you don't have to worry about it in the future.

My customers can't have a copy of my hard drive. That's illegal or I would.

I would for private selling ;)  (private, a big word)

A full updated Windows 10 Pro is now around 80 to 90GB. One SATA drive of 120GB for 5 bucks and they can clone from that to a SSD. Did you know, that you can still go from a fresh Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free? Yes, and branded in the motherboard, but takes at least 5 hours to make that complete. A fresh Windows 10 and there you go, auto activated and Legal.

/Edit: Now with all updates on Windows 7, MS disabled that feature. That is why I said a fresh Windows 7 without any updates. And use their upgrade tool. The MS activation servers are not down from when the free upgrade was offered.

What are you missing in Linux? All is there and free and even Office. Run it from a stick and it goes.

I have run Office 2007 on Linux. I can't promote the way in a business environment.

Help prove to me it runs games. Maybe then I can see it been comparable. For now... Direct X is the only way programmers are programing games for PC's. Yet I would love to change......... Teach me Ray. Show me the errors in my way.

Download an ISO of Linux, anything. Use Rufus and burn it on a USB Stick. Run and boot it from there and tell me what you have as default. A Office version of Linux for free.  As for games,

Hackintosh maybe? For personal use only since selling them is illegal of course. Pretty limited hardware compatibility tho iirc.

From what I've read, isn't  the "Mint" edition of Linux supposed to be for gamers?

Mint is a fantastic version of Linux, though lacking everything we need in an OS to play games. I searched for a way and I found none.

No different then Intel/Microsoft not supporting Windows Updates. All part of the game on new hardware.

Steam is full of games that are for Linux only.

I am pretty sure you can buy games for Linux as well.

It is if I don't or they don't own the license.  Most customers have no problem paying the puppet master price for the software. In my opinion if you write the software it is yours.
