Hi all.

Barring unforeseen circumstances we will be selling the house and I will be moving into an apartment in another area. Probably in April. Both to be close to family and also for medical reasons. Because I will drive very little... if at all depending on what happens in the future... it will likely be close to or in a downtown area. Walnut Creek, CA if anyone knows where that is. Not a cheap place to rent anything by any means but I will be able to afford it with frugal living and watching expenses.

The reason for thinking about this possibility, even with the added cost, compared to other lower cost ones is because I had one of my partial epileptic spells yesterday and it was relatively severe. There have been a lot of possible factors recently that helped trigger it and I have to keep that in mind and try to mitigate them. But even then there are no guarantees. Being in a location where everything is within decent walking distance  unfortunately is kind of a given and recommended situation if you live alone.

Anyways, my question is for anyone that has lived in a downtown area, big city or small one, single-story condo or multi-story building, what are your thoughts good or bad.

Wishing you best Sammy...

Depends on city and where. As you said walking to everything is great is much needed if you don't drive like me. Just be safe. Checkk out the area first!

Sorry to hear about your medical issue. Hope all turns out on a good note.

I have lived in both 3 story and 16 story apartments throughout my life.

I would prefer a low rise apartment building. Less people, less drama. If your not into that shit trust me they will show up at your door lol

Also bugs and creepy crawlers  which happens no matter if you live in a elite building or not, they will go everywhere. But being downtown increases the chances of bed bugs, cockroaches, mice etc etc showing up in your life. Buildings are close to food businesses etc. The more tenants there are in a building the higher the chance of those things getting in the building.

When your looking for an apartment watch the fridge and stove carefully (even pull them out to take a look) as that's where the roaches love to be.

Best wishes Sammy. I would think being close to a hospital should factor in on your choice.

That was the blunt truth!

Damn rents are similar to San Jose, Santa Clara here... but if you have family close by then that's the best thing to do.

I always let peeps know what no one else will tell them.

Not very many people think of the creepy things. Roaches and bed bugs go through apartments quickly. Roaches are easier to deal with if the owners of the building order a full building spray. If they only order an apartment spray then the problem will keep happening over and over.

Bed bugs are harder to kill. They go into the walls though outlets and light switches. You have to throw out your mattress. It can be costly on your part.

If you move use plastic bins because roaches and bed bugs love cardboard. If you use boxes they will move with you to your new place.
