To avoid the 999 in  game you would need to shut the pc down,  count to 60 seconds and restart the pc.

Freezing up and a black screen changes how peeps are going to try to help. Thanks for letting us know this. Is there anything else?

Does this only happen when you are playing cod4?

If your pc is on for a while does it freeze up, get a black screen and restart?

Yes, when I'm in game for awhile. Not when I'm on internet or watching movies on my PC. Game freezes up for 1 min, then black screen, then monitor reboots up again and I have to sign into my computer to continue what I was doing.....but like I said before, the PC tower NEVER shuts down.

Win 10 also has a pos xbox app built in, go to it and shut it all down. Seems to me I had an issue with that at 1 time as well. It can record video and bunch of crap while gaming, dunno if it is constant monitoring or not.

Ok.....I  was just in game for 2 hours without a problem until *poof*  I CRASHED!  :(

I ran the Whocrashed Program as soon as it booted up and this is what I got:

Drivers can be a pesky annoyance sometimes!

Did you update anything just before this issue started?

So, your pc does not restart right? Just your monitor?

What kind of graphics card do you have?

Are you still using the stock 480w psu it came with?

Hello Scarlett

It seems that it is a hardware pb.

First, u can check in the device manager if there is a pb pointed out by a yellow triangle with an exclamation point next to a device.

U reach the device manager through the "control panel" then "hardware and audio". To open the control panel, right click on the windows logo (lower left hand side of you screen) and select "control panel" in the list.

If there is this orange triangle, maybe you should update the driver of the device.

Then, you can try to fix it by changing the resolution of your monitor if not optimized (right clic on your desk / Display parameters / Recommended resolution)

It also can be a faulty memory module > try what I wrote in a previous post, (removing one or two memory modules to test your PC without them). NB: usually, the slot are paired 1-3, 2-4. So, if you have 4 ram modules, remove 1-3 or 2-4 according to the instructions for use of your motherboard.

You can also test your memory modules with memtest86 to know if they are OK or not but it takes a long time. So it is more convenient to launch the test during the night. Choose the freeware.

It can alsoooo ? be the graphics card.

First u can check if the card correctly works by executing a "dxdiag" test. Right click on the windows logo then select "execute" and type dxdiag in the windows then enter. A window will open. Click on the display tab concerning the graphics card. You'll see in this window if your card works correctly.

To know if it is faulty, you could also replace it by another one if you have another computer or maybe someone could lend you one. But firstly, u should check if you have the last update of its driver? (to be downloaded from the producer website, i.e. AMD according to the brand of your card).

Hopefully, it won't be the hard disk! To check, u can do that:  https://www.thewindowsclub.com/hard-disk-drive-health

And then, it could be the power supply or the CPU... U can already try what it's above ?

Since your PC is new, it is probably not the power supply nor the CPU. Your PC is working properly and it only crashes in game.

Did you try to remove any memory modules to test them?

I had recurrent BSOD with my PC (which I set up). It was because of the CPU cooling system interfering with memory modules.

However, what you describe looks more like a graphics card issue and/or a compatibility with your monitor (if not already done, u can try to plug another monitor to see if you encounter the same pb. U can also try to plug your monitor on another output: hdmi instead of dvi or the other way around, depending on the connection available).

Unfortunately, I don't see any way to help you further. Sorry! Maybe, u should follow @Elvis9 advice and show your PC to an expert.

Hi VHS2,

First of all I would like to thank you VERY much for being so kind and helpful in trying help me fix my PC issue. I really wanted to let  you know how much I appreciate it!!!!

I will try to hook my PC up to another monitor that I have and see if that is the issue. Other people have suggested it but I wanted to try everything else first to see if it was another issue besides that but now it's time to try it.

Here is a screenshot showing that the games COD WAW and COD4 are incompatible with my card..... I also ran the Performance for Memory while I was playing and there were no jumps or increase during that time....

I found this about the troubleshooting concerning the settings for an AMD graphics card with COD4 (maybe, you can have a try ?):

Remove ambient occlusion, shadows, vertical synchronization. Don't use the overclocking (if it is the case) nor the AMD settings (profiles).

AMD cards do not have an ambient occlusion option. That is only available with nvidia cards.

Do you know anyone that can lend you a graphics card so you can test it.

Taking your pc into a shop is going to cost you a few hundred dollars minimum.

I don't know how many DIMMS of RAM you have in the MOBO.  You could try removing all but one and try to replicate the problem.  At least that could eliminate the RAM as an issue.  I had random bsod and crash/reboots and it turned out to be a faulty DIMM. If you think it might be a driver issue you could use system restore to put things back to a time before the problem occured.

You are a genius!   Changing the settings in my AMD graphics card worked perfect!!!  I did not crash at all tonight and I played a LONNNNNGGGG  time!!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! hug-2.gif

 

Also, I would like to thank everyone else that posted in this thread as well, who took the time to give me LOTS of suggestions on how to resolve my PC problem. It's nice to know that I'm in a clan that cares about their members and  comes to their aid in time of need.  You guys are the best!!!

If you didnt had this problem before and everything was working fine with same specs same hardware; than its either your video card or your CPU heating up. Taking the side off and blowing fans on cpu/comp wont help. 

If I was you, I'd remove fan from CPU, clean thermal compound off "liquid like solution between fan and cpu". Buy new tube of thermal compound, you can get it from any comp electronics for 5/7$. You can find tons of videos on youtube on "how to apply thermal compound" Apply the new thermal compound and put everything back together. Run comp, run game, if the problem doesn't go away than I'm afraid it's your video card. It's a cheap test, you can try it before you end up with hundreds from pocket.
