You don't see a Bigsby on an SG very often. What is the amp setup?

I WISH the guy I bought it from didnt put the bigsby on it! I never use it, and this guitar is 1 of only 100 made that year in that color only sold in Canada, it is a sought after guitar that should be worth something one day.... if he didnt go and drill into the damn body (yes, he DIDNT use a mount!!!) but the lead guitarist of Monster Truck has 2 of this same guitar, so I HAD to have it. I am just running it through a solid state Marshall 40 and a digitech effects pedal using the JCM800 setting with some tweaks to compression sustain and distortion trying to get it close to the Monster Truck tone

You could just return it to stock and put the original bridge back in. It might have better intonation and stay in tune better. What model number is it?

It actually holds its tune very well because I never use the bigsby, a few tunes i do a quick little neck bend, i know i know, not good for the neck but damn it sounds sweet in the right spot LOL. I dont know for sure what the model number is, looking back in my emails from the guy he listed it as SG61TVCH the serial on the headstock is 118711332. I called Gibson before buying it and they confirmed it was one of the 100 made only for Canada. I am in Ontario and had it shipped from Alberta so wanted to make sure all everything was right with it before sending buddy the 1200 plus shipping I paid.

You have to be careful doing any kind of neck tweaks with an SG. My tech friend has had tons of customers throughout the years with broken necks and headstocks on their SG's. Did you pull the bridge PU cover off or did it come like that?

I dont dip it too far when I do, my buddy the lead guitarist of Monster Truck has cracked the neck on his custom shop '62 in TV Yellow doing a massive neck dive in a live show, he hammers em in there, i go maybe a half step drop if that. The guy I bought it from swapped out the bridge pick up for the 57 classic zebra, I still have all the original parts if I want to put it all back to original, only thing is if I do, there will be the damn holes in the body from teh bigsby butcher job LOL

One of the most important things I have learned in all of the years I've been around guitars is to either leave things stock or only do mods that can be undone. I had the Tronical tuners on 2 of my SG's and after giving them a good try I found that I just don't care for them. I have removed one set and the other came stock on the guitar. I am currently in the process of removing the Tronicals and installing regular tuners. Fortunately you can easily do this with no holes or radical mods.

You could probably remove the Bigsby, fill in the holes and tint them. It might work well and not be very noticeable.

I love SG's but I agree, very fragile head stocks.   And out of the 15 guitars I have, only one is a Gibson.  Thats a Gibson Corvus (black guitar below).   The ugliest guitar ever made !!  And it plays so nice.   I still buy and sell guitars as a hobby.  I always look for obscure and or rare models.  One of the pics is a rare SG with 3 single coils.  Sold that one a few years ago.  My problem is I buy them, then hate to part with them.  Should have kept the SG.   I've had probably 10 Gibson Les Pauls and a Firebird and Explorer and out of those, I only found two that I liked.   One was an 80 Les Paul classic (wine red) and the other a Gibson The Paul (Walnut guitar last picture).  The Paul was beat as hell when I got it.  I set it up and cleaned it up and man the walnut body had a nice tone.  It was a rare Gibson.  And of course I sold the damn things !!

you're right, that is one ugly ass guitar @MikeB ...AHHH my eyes !!

I made the mistake of selling a 71 Les Paul gold top back in 86' because I wanted a 2 octave, neck thru the body, with a Floyd Rose....and now I could shoot myself.....in the foot...

and I don't even own that other guitar anymore.....

never, ever sell your guitar s or guns, EVER !!
