Now that the new mod is almost ready to go... a couple more things to do... its time to start thinking about the settings. First is how many total rounds. Currently its best of 5. Should it be best of 9.

I like it how it is now ... Best of 5! We go through maps faster but I think it keeps it more interesting! ?

I think this needs to be judged on a per map basis if possible. Some maps if the number of players per team are high go time limit and overtime almost every time. I can go play other games come back over an hour later and the server is on the same map. No thanks.Those I would say best of 3. Some of the other maps best of 7 would be a happy balance.

Just my thoughts. But I like the 9 round for maps everyone enjoys. Then 5 of the maps that just take forever or not as well liked maps that some people still like.

I was thinking 5 on small and medium sized maps and 3 on larger maps.

the way it is set on the old mod works great  playing with 30 players its fast enough too cycle tru the maps however    you can see that when the numbers go down  some of the bigger maps will take forever  and it becomes more a sniper fest then  a freezetag game   maybe in the beginning  you can take the data from the !dislike and make it best of 5 of those maps instead of best of 10.

In the long range i would go for the best of 5 rounds because if there's way to long maps, it will rotate faster. 
For example, these sniper maps that always take until there's no more time left it would be perfect for that. 

But it would be a shame for the fast smaller maps, because they won't take to long. 

i think the Head-Admins need a sort of tool to swap the number of rounds more easier way.
Like a tool that loads up the current map when they start it so they can instantly change the number on it and go for example with a easy checkbox and click 3 - 5 - 9 Extreme long maps can then go as fast as a high phase map for example. 

Just an idea, I get the fact cod4 is old. So why invest in that right. But the other side is that we still have a pretty active server 
And i think it would be more interesting for players if larger maps are going faster so you get to enjoy more different maps in the amount of time that you spend on the server daily.

I like the best of 9 because you can get some epic comebacks. Like when you're down 0-3 en still win 5-4. You just feel like a pimp when that happens. But sometimes on the big maps it does indeed take forever to move on to the next map.

Hey someone else who enjoys gameplay no matter what f....g map it is, but I'm seeing the same old arguments from the run and gun bunnies, lets only play the maps they like eh? Puzzled as to how a pimp feels having little experience ?, any photos of your ride and your girls?

I think the number of players is also something to take in consideration. When there's only 5 to 10 people playing the rounds are very short. If you've got best of 5 on, the whole map could be over in 5 minutes. 

i'll play whatever gets decided though, just sharing my thoughts. :D

I think both have their merits. Like Kenmen says going from 3-4 rounds down and coming back to win 5-3/5-4 is always great fun. Sometimes long drawn out maps are awesome. On the flip side some maps do seem to take forever.

I know we have had the !dislike command running for a while, maybe the most popular large maps could be left at 9 and less noteworthy ones set lower? Not sure how much extra work this would be on our poor admins ? 

Maps like coldfront/overgrown/hof_junkyard/tigertown for example that never seem to get skipped or votes called on them should be kept at 9.

I do think 7 should be considered seriously as middle ground.

@Sammy Does the mod have a vote function at all? I have played a lot of other servers in the past where you were able to vote on the next map between rounds. Just wondering if something similar could be done here? Have a predetermined rotation but vote on the number of rounds 5/7/9. Something like 6-8 seconds would probably be enough if it was possible.

I wasn't suggesting voting on the maps, but if it could be tweaked to vote on number of rounds instead. Probably too much of a nuisance though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, @Sammy, but does there have to be a standard base for all maps in the config file, whether it's 3 or 5 wins, then you'd make exceptions to the ones that we want to have changed?  So we've either got to pick 3 wins, and decide which maps should go to 5 instead, or we pick 5 wins, and decide which maps go to 3 instead.  Otherwise, is there a way to set each map individually?  That might get cumbersome though with over 500 maps........

Yes there is a default setting for all maps unless changed by map specific values.
