Recently I've been getting into going hiking and some trail walking as well.

Do any of you go out and about climbing up hills? If so I'd like to see some photos ?

I'll start off with mine today at Rocky Mountain (GA, USA).

Hello!!

Very glad to see a fellow hiker here! Since the virus started and borders have closed I decided this is the best time to explore the province. Have gone on a few hikes so far this year... And many more upcoming ones!

Love the green and lushness in your pictures beautiful!

That looks very peaceful. I agree with you, it's been nice outside and still distancing from people. The hikes that I've been going have been more beginner friendly, at least around here in the southeast. I'll be picking distance as I get further into it. It's been really fun and challenging!

Thank god I live in North Carolina.  Such a beautiful place.

Get out and hike! First, start on the trails and then go off-trail when you're comfortable for real adventure.

I live in the mountains and we have plenty of opportunity for hiking, camping, etc.

A suggestion: get some formal training in basic survival skills. Make sure you carry a pack with basic essentials for a couple of days EVERY time you go hiking. Also, learn some primitive (bushcraft) skills to build your own shelter, catch/cook food, start fires without a Bic lighter ... ?. The list goes on.

Oh, and RobMc doesn't like to leave his personal WWI museum often. It's in the basement of his flat. He keeps ShinyAbsol in a room down there behind the Thompson machinegun display.

One day out in the hills doing some hiking and training ... a quick shelter build from deadfall and live pine.

Yea decide if you are going to Aldi, Tescos or Asda this week, learn how to go through a Mcdonalds drive through safely, and make sure you know the opening times of the fish and chip shop, all essential life skills in the UK.

Chris won't let me keep her there, I have her chained in the yard to deter burglars but her bark is worse than her bite as we all know

That's exactly my plan. Build up these legs more and more going uphilll with a bag on my back. I've gotten a small few things though will add to it and keep it light. I'll welcome any other tips you have as well.

??? adding to it usually makes it heavier?

I can think of some tips EC50 would give 1/. Always piss upwind in a gale, 2/. Always take a spare dress and knickers 3/. Never let your makeup run in the rain, wear a hat 4/. If confronted by a bear offer it some vaseline, hurts less

EC has said quite a few times he'd like to f..k me, so like any good boy scout I'm always prepared, up to now his attempts have been woeful.

On a serious note, get out and about as much as you can, I walked miles (lucky where I live) when I owned dogs, 5-6 miles minimum every day (two walks) but up to 20 miles if I had a day off, loved it, especially the Reiver roads and Roman roads which are still there, although in wild places. What started it was a walk with the county archaeologist one day, he opened up to me a whole new world of things to discover on walks, burials, hill forts, Roman camps, abandoned villages etc etc I began to understand bumps in the ground, fortifications, old railway lines and mine workings, what always seemed strange to me were that in the wildest spots there were traces of man and you were not the only one to have walked there. Buy the biggest map you can, learn how to use a compass (for variation and deviation) and wear good boots, you need little else. We also have many marked routes in the forests which are great for novices, with different lengths and difficulty and sights along the way (such as a cave where a Reiver hid and was shot, you can still see the bloodstains), rock carvings from all ages, prehistoric, roman, viking and more recent, and burial mounds.

That's what I'm trying to do nowadays. Luckily for me walking isn't hard. I run 3 miles 3-4 times a week. Then Saturday's I go for a hike at least the same distance that I run. Boy Oh boy, running on flat surface isn't the same as stepping on rocks.

I got me some basic hiking shoes for now. Gonna get an insole in them, Ozark Trail light hiking shoes, were on sale for $5 at Wally World, and I couldn't pass that up. Took em last Saturday. Sure as hell better than the boots and blisters I had.

In my expertise, if I get lost. Just listen to the banjo music.

I can't help you with E.C's attempts but maybe change the color of your lipstick might work.

Our discussion yesterday @Daddyo made me want to go hiking. So I had everything prepared for today. But the weather is shite... So instead I'll just post photos from a hike last year, in Siggaboda Naturreservat in Southern Sweden. Sweden -especially south- is a flat country, filled with lakes and forests and lakes and forests. Doesn't make for very challenging hikes, but it is beautiful. I had a lot of fun on this one, the challenge consisted mostly in finding the path though the vegetation - the path appears on every picture here hehe, apart from the one with the lake.
