Freezetag Scoring Proposal

Please don't throw too many tomatoes, but just an idea:

Freezetag, as far as scoring and which team wins, is all about the last seconds of the game; even when one team has been leading the match consistently. Scoring is really only for the individual player, and does not count towards the team as a whole. Only the wins do.

PROPOSAL FOR DISCUSSION: How about the score is added up amongst the team members, and the team wins either by reaching a set threshold score first OR freezes other team completely? I realize this COULD be gamed, by team members intentionally getting shot a lot, just to get thawed, to artificailly increase team total points. Maybe a workaround for that is a thaw is worth the same as a kill instead of double?

And idea #2: Instead of 5 matches to win and go to next map, how about best of 3? Or even 1? To keep things fresh each evening? An hour and a half on one map is a long time.

Just an idea you die-hard Freezetaggers, but would love input from everyone who plays ?

yeah good point that your team can play a hole map and shoot loads of people and loose the map on 2 late freeezes

Yes we do that now, and it of course needs to remain. I'm talking about alternate ways to winning the match when you DON'T freeze the entire opposing team. ?

I like the current scoring system as it promotes thawing......... as you clearly get more points for thawing than you do for a kill. We all know how frustrating it can be to be frozen and your team do not thaw................

I liked the fact that when people who dont thaw, realise the points system, they then start thawing

Why fix something that isn't broken, I totally agree with Morris, it does promote thawing! I think the ftag server is just fine the way it is. I think its good strategy if you can get that last kill in to win it for your team or to call in an Artillery in the last 30 secs of the game to get the win. Not every map takes 90 mins to play, its just a a few maps that that happens which depends on how your team plays/thaws etc to make a round end in a tie instead of a win.

Server rules is fine for mr, i would like it our kill streaks could get transferred to the next round.

I agree with Morris about the thawing and how it is now : it's working great and people are mostly happy with it and it's very populated.

Why fix something that isn't broken, though ? I agree too, but at the same time I think that it's nice to try some new things sometimes and see what our members and regular like or not. A little like DeerJon did a few times. I think that only the artillery stayed, but we still tried some other things, lol 

As far as the 3 rounds instead of 5 : I thought about it a couple of times too. The problem that I see here is that for some maps it's going to be way too short and we only have a few maps that are compatible with the FT mod, so if we don't want to always play the the same, I think that it's nice that some will sometimes take more time to play than some others. We have to consider that depending on who's on and how many players we are, that sometimes a same map will last 10 minutes one time and and 1h15 the other time. Also, we have to consider that if we'd try a 3 rounds instead of 5, we'd have to switch sides every round instead of every 2 rounds. Otherwise, for maps where there are "good and bad sides", it would be fair or more balanced.

I'm thinking of something else that I wondered was possible once and it's a "Sudden death" round like there are some on MW2 (cod4) and if it'd be interesting or another alternative to the 5 minutes round ?! ... I must admit that I like both, though.

Oh ! And I agree with Shaun : if the kill streak would be transferred to the next round, it would be awesome ! lol

I think an area that could be improved on is the best of 5 when you actually have to play 5. Maybe if the first round is a draw it changes to best of 3? Not sure if that is even possible, maybe @Merlin007 could answer that?

Not aware of a variable that will allow switching how many rounds to play based on the outcome of the first.  Will check on this.

For me i still prefer the best of five .Since a didnt play a lot on some map 2 round and out i wouldnt have the time to explore and find good spots.

Let's just decrease the game time to 2mins, this way your already at the end of the round.

Also, if it's possible... can you track which maps are NOT winnable? Those maps that just run the timer out each time.. For me personal, it gets old pretty quick and I want to move on to the next possibly objective winnable map..

There's a lot of maps that one would consider winnable or not, that's a subjective opinion at best.  Sure some maps will play out but what one would consider a winnable map can also play out the timer. So to answer your question, no, we do not track "winnable" maps.  You can like or dislike a map which duc has worked to improve that feature but that's it.

Thanks for your feedback though.  I get what your saying but that sort of tracking is not feasible.
