Got most of my parts today to build my 3rd Gaming rig. This current PC (MicroATX) was built in 2009, still running Win 7, but it served me well. Here's what I'm going with if anybody is interested.

NZXT H210I case (Black)

AMD 3900x ( 12 Core/24 thread - 3.8Ghz boost up to 4.6Ghz) - My first build was AMD, been Intel up to now.

Asus X570 i ROG Mini ITX Strix motherboard

32GB Gskill 3600 memory

Samsung 970 Evo M2/NVME drive (plus existing 500 SSD & Sata 1tb drive)

Corsair H115i 280mm AIO Cpu cooler

2 / 2 of Corsair LL120 & 140 fans (lots of RGB's)

Seasonic 650W SFX PSU

Existing EVGA 980 TI Graphics card (thanks Stan G)

Win 10

Still waiting on the PSU & MOBO, probably be up and running next weekend. Anybody using a 3900x and how do u like it?

Sweet. Pretty much the only thing you'll need to do is set it to XMP profile 1 and restart so that it reads your memory correctly. I got the 8 core, 16 thread 3700x and a MSI X470 Gaming Plus MAX motherboard,16 gb G-Skill DDR4 3600.

My CPU hasn't throttled yet with the stock AMD Wraith Prism LED RGB Cooler. It gets up to about 65c while gaming and still boosts to 4.2-4.3ghz on all cores.I have a Corsair H105 AIO cooler but I'm still waiting on the AM4 retention bracket to show up in the mail. It uses the same 280mm Radiator that your H115i has but with the older round pump. I bought it new last year so no since buying a new one.

XMP1 is Motherboard Validated timings. XMP 2 is supposed to be Default memory timings by Speed but it over volts the memory on some motherboards.

XMP 2 can run unstable on some motherboards because it will run the memory at 1.5v instead of the 1.35V that most DDR4 calls for. IMO not worth the risk of burning something up.

If you set it to XMP profile 1 and you have Shuttering or system instability set it to XMP profile 2.

Good info, thanks. I'm used to the XMP on Intel, haven't had memory problems for years. Looking forward to this build. My kids got better PC's than me. Biggest challenge was finding the parts I wanted. Can't find a Kraken AIO anywhere, and the PSU's are stupid expensive, and low stock. The trick with this build is can I fit a 280 aio in the case, I've seen it done, but with different aio. That and hopefully don't stroke out on the RGB. ?

3900x uses 224w at 100% load while rendering a large file in Blender which you will never see while playing even the most demanding game.

My 3700x maxes out at 164w under full load while still boosting to 4.2-4.3ghz.

AMD FX 8320 uses 195w at stock speeds under full load.

I had my amd fx8320 OCed to 5ghz with the voltage bumped up on the CPU/NB and a very very power hungry Gigabyte R9 290X OC Windforce card and 8 fans with a 240mm AIO cooler and 2 mechanical HDDs and 2 ssds for 8+ years and my little 650w PSU never had a problem.

I'm using an old 650w Corsair PSU that came from CompUSA back in 2004. (made by PC Power and Cooling before Seasonic bought them out)  I replaced the fan in it 6 years ago when it started going bad.  650w Works fine even when running flat out while bench-marking and stress testing. Corsair PSUs are made by Seasonic. They are one of the best PSUs that you can get.

Most games can only use up to 4 cores, that's why a higher clock speed is more important than core count for gaming. Your CPU will most likely never draw more than 150w max while gaming. You can upgrade your power supply at a later date since your board only requires the 4+4 CPU power connector. My board has the 8+4 CPU power connector and I only have the 8 pin connected. Works just fine but I won't be able to overclock very high without upgrading my PSU.

@crimson You will love it dude. Check this out. With stock cooling and no overclock yet. That is my validated CPU-Z benchmark.

Check out the right side lol. $490 intel i9 9900k is slightly slower than my $280 Ryzen 7 3700x.

Well, see that's the problem. I wanted the 750 W SF 750 Corsair, but...it has like a 3 week lead time, and people are jacking the price $100 over the msrp Seriously $250. The best I could get in an SFX PSU(which makes things more convenient in cable management) is 650 Watts /80+ Gold @ $135. I ran 2 PSU calc's and they both said max wattage was around 527 Watts. 650 gives some headroom over that. Plus, it was $100 cheaper, and I can get it this week. And it's Seasonic, which is what I've run in my current rig for 10 trouble free years. We'll see, I wanted more, just real hard to get in an SFX now. If it becomes a problem, I'll slam a full ATX in and be done. But I've never had a PSU larger than 750. Bear in mind this is mini itx, and will never be more than 1 graphics card. Thanks for the input!

That's pretty damn impressive Jester. I'm excited, I'll have pics once build progresses. Assuming my PSU & MOBO arrive this week.

Yeah, I'm a big believer in the SSD, adopted that early, back in 2010.  My 250GB OCZ is 10 years old, and I started getting concerned it may be reaching end of life, so I mirrored it to a 500GB Samsung. Now, I got both. The 2TB WD is just for storage, pics, files etc., but yeah, I look forward to upgrading that to a larger non spin format. I'm a believer instead of RAID, just make numerous copies on different drives, so if one fails, you got a back up. For home use, raid just isn't worth it. Samsung has a 980 coming out that will actually make more use of that PCIE 4 lane, but naturally, it's not out yet, and when it is, will probably be stupid pricey. At least at first. Watch out for this one...."Samsung's 980 Pro M.2 SSDs are expected to feature read and write speeds of 6500 MB/s and 5000 MB/s, respectively, which is notably faster than the Phison-based SSDs that are on the market today.https://www.tomshardware.com/news/report-pcie-4.0-based-samsung-980-pro-ssd-will-have-max-capacity-of-1tb

I doubt I'll ever be able to afford that 3080 card, which is just rediculous for the game I play. MW Ftag. I am planning on trying the new Modern Warfare, once the build is complete, just so I can go frag StanG. ?

I've almost finished building my first gaming rig  just the RAM to go and she's ready.
Of course, I do need to get a new SSD and SSHD but mine still work perfectly fine, same with my GPU but they will be upgraded over time.

Best of luck and I hope it works well!

What did you build PK? AMD, or Intel. I'm interested. Also, if it is AMD, sporting the new PCIe4 lanes, then you should consider the new Samsung 980 NVME/M2 drive. I couldn't wait, but is supposed to out in the next month or 2.

Building an AMD machine. AMD Ryzen 5, MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 650 watt gold PSU and my current GTX 960 GPU. I will get an SSD at the end of the month

It's Alive!....Damn. This thing fought me tooth and nail. First, thanks to the idiots on Reddit, I was convinced I could fit a 280mm radiator in a case designed for a 240. Unfortunately, I failed to realize at the time, there was a difference in the NZXT 280 (which I couldn't locate one) and the Corsair 280(which I purchased). This caused me to modify my fan situation. I had planned to just do a PULL config with my sexy Corsair LL fans on the inside of the case, radiator. No go, the case had Power switch, Led, USB connections near front panel, and it wouldn't fit to mount. So, I had to mount the 2 stock fans as PUSH, which acts as a spacer. That problem solved, created Problem 2.  If I mount my 2 LL fans in Push Pull, the graphics card will no longer fit. And, then I realized the LL fans only have the RGB visible in 1 direction, opposite of what I needed. That was solved with a trade for QL fans which have rings on both sides. SO now measuring my graphics card, I could only have 1 inside the radiator, which shouldn't be an issue, plenty of cool with 5 fans. Then the wires, OMG the fan wires, and trying to manage all that in a small ITX case with a Corsair commmander pro, and lightning node. That took the bulk of my time, just getting the 50 lbs of shit in the 10 lb box. Good news, it's up, Windows is loaded, I've gotten control of the RGB. Still tweaking my fan speed, don't quite have that where I want it. But the CPU is in the upper 20's Celcius @ idle, which is good. I'll post a short vid, and a couple of pics momentarily.

Here's a few pics and a small demo vid of the build. Overall, very pleased how it turned out. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1bIUJCheVXXsChygZ8PhofFJGZTpnalqO?usp=sharing

Might I add, this machine is SOOOO good, that it won't play COD4? I can't get in game to save my life. If anybody has suggestions let me know. I've downloaded a new copy from steam, downgraded to 1.7 can connect to the server, download mods, and maps, and when the game goes to load...pooof. Gone. Have to reboot. IS this a Win10 thing?
