I'm in the process of backing up my PC to transition over to a new PC that I just purchased. Can someone please remind me which files in the Activision Call of Duty 4 folder I need to back up so that my player profile, level and player loadouts I use  in game can all be ported over the the new installation once I get the new PC up and running? Any other helpful tips as to what I should do before I unhook the old computer from my monitors would be much appreciated. I am coming from a PC that was still running Windows 7 to one that has Windows 10.

Think you'll want a copy of the players folder that has your profiles in it. Might want a copy of xi_mw2_147w in the mods folder as well and any other mods you play regularly. Not sure how fast your connection is, might be worth backing up the usermaps folder as well to save you downloading those.

do not do anything with w7 just copy appdata/activision folder

to w10 after  install  game using admin rights and every update also

once you get game working on w10  then  paste w7 files in appdata/activision folder

oh this a CD or steam game?

@KaptCrunchI have the cd version but my new system doesn't have a cd drive. I do have a portable dvd drive, but I can't find the correct USB cable for it. I was thinking about just buying the game on Steam, but I can also just run over to Best Buy and get the correct cable to use with this drive. Is there a big difference which version of the game I use? As far as drive sizes you were asking...my new PC came with a 480GB SSD as well as a 2 TB standard HD if that's what you were asking.

you have the cd  drive right on your old pc just copy that cd to a usb stick  and then install from that in your new pc  backing up your profiles is easy just copy everything froom the player folder  while your at it copy   the usermap folder as wel so you dont have to donwload all the  maps from the server.

spot on Deesy with maps

Note: can dual boot old drive just need your new hardware drivers on old drive. with boot commander

or leave and let w10 assign a drive letter

Tron can also place his old w7 drive in  new PC to copy also  or leave it and use old  desktop icon of CoD_MP and  edit target and Start in to file  location to the drive asigned by w10 by properties of Mp icon from w7 drive desktop folder, make a shortcut to w10 desk top an edit it

this also helps if had old 32bit OS install of game works under w10

this why most people can't get their game to work under w10  64bit

@Tron - I didn't read the entire thread just skimmed thru...

  • You can rip the CD and use the files extracted to install the game
  • Make sure to install the patches
  • Once the game is installed overwrite the mods, maps, and players folder
  • You can search for your in-game nickname based profile folder in the previous PC's game installation folder
  • Remember, the CD version requires the CD to be put in, replace the EXE with your old installation exe, I believe you must have been using a patched one

Don't buy a steam version. Admittedly sometimes I want to do that, so I can play the game via NVidia GeForce Now on my tablets and such.

You can use DAEMON-TOOLS for a virtual cd drive on your system use de lite version and skip the trail

Make a copy from your cd/dvd and put it on your drive c or d or e what you want

Or use NO-CD/DVD after the complete install what i use

Have fun

you dont need to do that at all one can just open the cd with  finder and then copy all content to  a usb drive  and then run the executable from that drive . download and install the patches  you only need the 1.6 patch and the 1.7 so inatll 1.6 and 1.7   (1.6 has all the previous in one)  put your saved mp cfg in there  and your saved usermap folder and you are good to.

i asume this was with the steam versions?   i never had any issues with installing cod4 or 5 on a windows 7/8/10 machine

the way i do it

1 :  a usb drive with  a copy of the game   reason i dont have a dvd drive in my system  it contains the game  i made that years ago   just open the cd with finder copy all content to that drive   while your at it  download the patches 1.6 and 1.7 too   so you have everything on that drive   also make a text document  with the cd key on it  and  put our player  folder also there.

2: install from that drive  instal everything but do not run the game at all  so let it run put your key finish instalation.

3: run the the 1.6 patch  do noit start the game

4: run the 1.7 patch

5:copy the player folder to the games folder

6: start the game

i did thhis many times this way and never failed me hope the info helped  backing up the usermap folder  you need a really big drive we have a lot of maps running  last time i checked my cod4 usermap folder (the map where all the xi cod4 maps are stored)  was over 300gb
