Yes, it is cast iron.  Love cooking with it (cast iron anything) for manifold reasons.  It's tough; won't warp or lose it's surface like teflon...which I don't like anyway; prolly not healthy.   You get natural iron supplementation in your food when using cast iron.   Because of it's mass, it cooks well vis a vis holding heat really well.  It's versatile, can sear a steak, for instance, then go into the oven to finish it.  Easy to clean.  I think cast iron's pretty, too.  Even when I'm not using it, I like leaving it setting out, because it's aesthetically pleasing.

It's actually cheaper to make your own food than eating prepared food.  Especially if you buy in bulk & freeze extra portions for later days.  Many things keep really well in the freezer for months, like chili, lasagna, pizza dough, breads, muffins, sauteed mushrooms & onions, stock from beef or chicken.  That & cooking is enjoyable.  It's nice to walk into a kitchen & know you can make many good eats from memory.  Started cooking for myself when I was about 7 or 8, as my parents worked many hours.  The Fanny Farmer Cookbook was my first serious foray into cooking at about the age of 12.  Having accumulated a working familiarity with cooking for 4 or 5 years, it was a fun progression to organize & develop my nascent skills.  Even got into confections, desserts, breads, pastas, pastries, sauces.  It's really ridiculously easy to make an excellent chicken noodle soup, ribs, lasagna, chili, cheesecake, bread, that's better than just about anything you can buy, & for cheaper.

Yup, cast iron is the best. It can (and does) last forever - my friend just bought a 1950s 10" cast iron pan at an antique shop and the thing is sturdy as ever. Best way to evenly heat anything, and doesn't have any of the freaky chemicals present in Teflon. I had no idea about the natural iron supplements...yet another positive about cast iron LOL
