Sabbath is definitely on my desert island mix.   Fairies Wear Boots is my favorite off of Paranoid.  Masters of Reality we wore out cruising around and getting stoned.   Hand of Doom is always on my playlist.   Beef tongue  !!!  Grew up hunting and trapping, so Im use to eating weird shit (farm country).  Pig brains, beef tongue, frog legs, squirrel, you name it we ate it.   My dad grew up the oldest of 7 kids and his dad (my grandpa) died when he was 12.  So my grandma had to go to work and he took care of the siblings.   They fished local ponds with dynamite.  That way they could get enough fish for the whole family quickly.   My uncle actually lost some fingers due to playing with dynamite caps in the outhouse !!  The only thing I would not try, that dad fixed, was Possum.  Fuckers are ugly !!!   My dad passed in 2019 and I miss his ass a lot.  I was blessed with fantastic parents.

Well, as much as there has been some amazing musical acts, the Beatles are the band that change music and the largest influence to many great artists to follow.

20 number one songs (most by any artist), 13 original albums all number one (no artist has done that), 650 million albums sold (most by an artist), all members in the Rock n Roll as solo artists and as a band.  They have 4 albums in the top 10 greatest albums ever.  All within 7 plus productive years.
The Beatles catalog, actually only the songs that Lennon/McCartney wrote which is only 151 songs is estimated to be worth 1.3 billion dollars, again a record.

difficult to beat that. sorry Rob.

Oh you're not wrong in a way, the majority of people liked them, but in the same way they worship modern pop idols, a lot of hype. To me their music is bland and forgettable, churned out for a ready audience, even then you got the nutters reading meanings into their lyrics etc. Sorry but I never liked them and still don't like them, not my kind of music, and you all know what I mean, it is true that music you like 'moves you'. The only thing I thank them for is awakening me to Indian music, and I had the privilege of seeing Ravi Shankar (in Boston). Modern technology now allows easier access to fantastic foreign music such as The Hu and the amazing players on No Quarter for example, long may it continue.

Music changes with each generation and each generation think that theirs is the best, quite naturally, as that is where their memories lie. But Lady Gaga?, think I'll pass thank you.

Morning,

As much as I agree with you I would say there is one band that also was amazing that has not been mentioned here.... All were amazing song writers and musicians and the lead vocalist could sing the contents of shopping cart and make it sound amazing they were the first to make a proper music video for one of their songs and kept going for decades and although the lead singer has passed on they still keep going. Yes you have guessed I am a Queen fan ... I grew up listening to Elvis (Mother was mad on him) Father was 100% country so it was not until the seventy's that i really got into music for my self. So Floyd ,Sabbath ,Zeppelin, Stones , and the Who was really amazing Bands and brilliant music I love them all but like I said Queen made some amazing music too over the years.

Most of the good Rock bands / musicians came from England  in the 70's   missed the The Who

Music went downhill from the late 80's on.  Became to commercialized.  To me the 60's and 70's saw the peak of music production.  There are a few newer bands you can sprinkle in the good category.

I remember buying my first Queen album.  I was in Columbus, Ohio at the Westland Mall at a music store (remember those).  Mom always turned me loose to do whatever with some spending money.  I didnt want to look at clothes all day !!  Anyway I was rifling through the LP's when I saw Queens first album.  Never heard of them, but the album cover caught my eye.  Album covers were a big part of selling LP's.  Hypnosis (spelling) was a big cover designer in the days.  Anyway I bought the album, based on the cover and was blown away.  After that I bought every Queen album that came out.  Well until they went more pop oriented.  After "The Game" I lost interest.  Pink Floyd was same way.  After "The Wall" it was "Water'd down" music.  Get it "Water'd down" ????  Division Bell was "meh"

I can picture Pete in a Kaftan, doing the hippy trail, for the younger ones Bread were a group not something with butter.

ps they were awful but women seemed to like them? I had to endure their music sometimes, and Motown which was disco music, 'the things you do for love'

like walking in the rain ........🙄

Hey I like "The Sweet" too.   Some good musicians in that band.  Drummer is crazy good and guitarwork is great too.  But many dont like them.  Desolation Boulevard and Give us a Wink are fantastic albums.  I think on your side of the pond, Desolation Boulevard was the album "Fannie May" ?  I know Desolation was a compilation of old songs and some new.
