I was reading today and saw where you may be able to increase your RAM in the BIOS. I would love to if it is possible. Then I need a bigger Power supply to run some of my games. Will an old 850 watt work in a new pc if it fits the case?

Well, a gpu has ram, then there's the ram the cpu & applications use.  Not sure what you're asking.

Don't know what you were reading but as far as I know ram is a physical thing you have to add to the m'board or gpu ,as Timmah says for cpu. You can tweak settings in bios but news to me you can add ram. The power supply is easy, 850w will power most computers BUT as time moves on the physical connectors change, you need to check they will fit what you have, you can buy adapters though.

tip, if you start poking around in bios make a note of every alteration you do and what it was originally

Like @RobMc has said if you are not really sure of what you are doing I would not touch the Bios settings at all a little mistake can cause big problems. With regards Power Supply 850 should be plenty.

Try and explain what you need to do and we can give you better advice Dean. If you need to add more ram we need to know how many sticks and type that you already have and also how many slots your mother board has. you can free up Memory that your PC is using on background programs but thats only a minor amount and would need to be done every time you start up.

So just let us know how much Ram you have installed, How many sticks of Ram, And how many slots your mother board has.

And a side note what games you intend to play which will give us a rough I dear of what you need 😉

Edit....... Also if that is a new PC opening it up and changing things would Void any warranty

first need to know  motherboard  model  and how many ram slots. Note OS and hardware 32 or 64bit depends on total ram

also has current firmware for MB so cpu has the best microcode

all PSU's style ATX are universal  20 pin or 24 pin connector

best use the update app  from motherboard maker site to update MB drivers Note need to know the MB  RevX.xx to match model# (its written on MB)

other thing can do is upgrade CPU that matches MB socket for a faster CPU if want want more speed

On some pc's that has onboard vc's as well as some with video cards you can go into the bios and change the amount of allotted memory for the video card. I looked in mine and the instructions said to go into the advanced portion and you should be able to find the settings in there. I looked and I couldn't find anything but to be honest I didn't look especially look very hard. If it is doable it is much less expensive for me than putting all that money out there. I just thought I would ask and see if anyone here had ever done that? Apparently not lol I am a dreamer...........

It's not speed I need it's the extra memory for playing wide band games.

This pc I am referring about only has 1028 bits of memory. I need 2 tb. I play World of Warcraft  and I also have another game I want to play(No Mans Shy) that needs the extra memory just to play the game with no clicks as you play!

Ah now I understand, and yes you can but you slow down other things, you need a lot of memory to run any O/S, sorry to disappoint you but reading your other posts a dedicated video card and at least 8gb on m'brd are normal minimum specs. However you say you need 2tb, wow, you sure? I think you're mixing memory with how much free space you need for game on hd, and 1tb is 1000 gb, is this not GB?

Post all details you can and the guys here can help you

I see so its storage you need your HD (hard drive) is not big enough to store everything you need. Now that is a simple fix you have a couple of options an external HD that plugs into a usb port Or an internal one that would connect to one of your SATA ports. for me I would go internal here in the UK the internal are cheaper and out of the way once installed. I am not sure about the US and prices but they are generally not too much. it would then just be a case of formating and give it a drive letter (but most PC's will do that automatically once its connected)

I'm guessing that with onboard video being used there is probably little storage and memory, and it an old machine, it would probably be cheaper to buy a machine to at least minimum specs of games you want to play than upgrade, sorry to be bringer of bad news if that is the case, but others will be nodding their heads.

You'll notice this under world of Warcraft

RAM: 4 GB RAM (8GB for integrated graphics such as Intel HD Graphics)

What this means is for onboard graphics you need a minimum of 8gb on the m'bd

Do you have this?

Dean Can you go to start menu,,,then click on computer then click on system properties on top of screen that will bring up a page that will tell you what processor you have, it will also tell you what Ram you have.

Write that down then on the left of your screen click on device manager which will bring up a drop down list. click on Display adapter which will then tell what Graphics card you have write that down. then let us know and from that we can tell you exactly what you have and what you need . 👍

First thing you should do is familiarize yourself with the basic components of a computer; make life a lot easier when understanding what you have & what you need.  Ram, ROM (storage), cpu, gpu.  1028 bits would be only ~10% of a kilobyte... nothing that would affect ram or rom storage.  Now 1028  MB would be a GB....  and if you're using onboard graphics, it's definitely waaaay past time to come up off of a few dollars & buy a dedicated gpu.

@BigPapaDean Try scanning your computer with this tool and it will tell you your motherboard and how much ram and hard drive space you currently have :

From everything I know Dean that would be yes to the one question, and I'm not sure but I'm saying no to the other question, except that one of the answers is a could be, but then, maybe it should be couldn't be.

Glad to help.

I changed out the power supply and the video card and am on said computer as I write this. It seems to be working as I desired so until further events I say this is closed. Kapt I was in fact sitting there with it tore apart but as I began the putting it back together I had to tear it apart and put it back together about 10 times before I finally had all the wires hooked up I needed. I am remembering better all the time but still quite foggy!
