I didn't ever intend this post to be about ethnicity but it is very interesting, and a bit disturbing, to see how many people read it that way? My intention was to show that taking the powers from Hospital staff, police, ambulancemen and firemen is having a disastrous effect on the organisation and the 'normal' patients. Why oh why in the modern day world is it not acceptable to either segregate or refuse to treat these people ?

As Sharpe points out it is a very poorly managed organisation, especially managers on huge salaries that are ruining it by draining the resources. As I look out the window across the fields to my local hospital I feel safe in the knowledge that the man in charge of it has a good firm base, his previous position was as a manager in Asda (Walmart), good medical background there.

No one but no one should be running a medical organisation unless they come from a medical background, full stop.

The results as you say of this paranoia running around we need to discuss, it should not be ignored, and it is sad it has become that way. When people feel they cannot freely discuss a subject then that is free speech gone and censorship applied. However all of that is something else and not what the post was about, very interesting to read the responses, Pete we all expect, but surprised how others picked up the thread, I'm keeping an eye on Canada.

As a Canadian I am sorry RobMc for my misunderstanding your meaning. ( Canadians always apologize) I saw similar situations in a Hospital here on TO. I thought you mentioned middle eastern and Russian folks and jumped to the wrong conclusion. So therin lies the problem overall its just plain folks that cause all these problems for the doctors and nurses. We must not speak unkindly of these transgressions lest we be doomed to eternal damnation. I will take the higher ground the next time I see all this shit going on and as Monty sang on the cross "Always look on the bright side of life"  Cmon everybody sing the song.

No problem, the reason it was put in was that these people almost certainly paid nothing into the system they were keen to utilise. Most UK people would see this, but I understand why others might not, therein lies the problem it looks like it is racist to some people, not sure how you type the facts without this? We are becoming so sensitive that anything you write becomes offensive in some way. That said by far the greatest number abusing the system are born in the UK, living off the state from cradle to grave.

Hey Crunch, first off I can not comment on the case you mentioned but only express common practices in my experience.

If someone is diagnosed with Covid 19 and their symptoms are not life threatening then a ventilator is not required. The process required to be on a ventilator is quite precise. You first need to be under general anesthetic and the intubated. You are then monitored 24/7 by medical staff most likely in ICU. No one takes being on a ventilator lightly, its typically designed for short term use, the longer you are on it, the worse your chances are of a full recovery. As for self isolation for 30 days? Its most likely 28 days but to the variant Covid-19. The isolation period is longer than the standard 14 days.

As for privilege, I dont see that. Good question though.

This has turned into a dark conversation I am not comfortable with. I have worked hard and treated every patient with the respect and dignity they deserved, and what I hope for if I was a patient as well.

If you wish to make a statement that you have experienced or witnessed poor treatment, or even preferential treatment to others then I would advise you talk to someone in your health authority or your local MP, MLA or state representative. 

I myself have worked with some amazing individuals in my career who have given themselves tirelessly to their profession. Yes, I have met some you also treated this as a pay check but gratefully they could not make as a career. Is it possible that some individuals let their own personal ideals cloud their work, yes its possible. I just have not witnessed it in my career and I am grateful.

I stress again, you have concerns and yes make allegations then I suggest you contact someone. Your not doing any any good venting here, maybe go outside and scream at clouds, at least then you are getting some exercise.

I've learned to listen to multiple news sources.  Without being able to see things from multiple sides, such as in this forum, I think I'd miss some important facts.  I can use the Google search bar, but I'm not going to see some of the real life experiences that I read here.

In all seriousness though my two pennies is: NHS is GROSSLY underfunded and GROSSLY understaffed and yes, the abuse of staff across all departments is nothingshort of disgusting and exacerbatingthe problem. Simply put, people don't want to work for the NHS because the sheer amount of financial cuts means the pay isn't good enough for the shit they would have to deal with from entitled pricks who think they should be waited on hand and foot. And why would they when they can take a nice fat paycheck in the private sector or even moving abroad with their shiny new medical degrees where the pay is better? This makes the staffing issue so much worse, increasing the pressure on the current staff, and destroying their mental health (for which services are also grossly underfunded) in the process. It's a vicious cycle tbh, where does it end?

I dont think this is a left or right problem but rather people in general who think they are entitled to better care above and beyond anyone else. I reside In Canada where violence or harrassment of staff is not tolerated PERIOD!  Workers may refuse to perform dangerous work using the Dangerous Work Refusal Process here in Alberta. If any staff member feels threatened in the midst of their duties, they may refuse to do such duties. 

We are all entitled to a safe and secure work environment regardless where we work. Sadly this is not just healthcare staff being subjected to this. This article is from today. Its society in general.
