Hi mate, having watched you over the last couple of weeks we all get odd ci's but yours are weird :-

They seem only to affect you on any game, you jerk from spot to spot

What this says to me (no expert) is that it is not the server but the fault is entirely at your end

It is as though something in your computer has a bottleneck with the info being taken in or given out, simplest way I can put it, ram, vram, hard drive and processer obvious first suspects. However it is interesting it only affects this game, so that is where you need to start and there are better guys than me on here who may be able to help you, lets see what they think.

@LOCO, @KaptCrunch, @FunStick or @J3st3r probably the best for 4

Hey Bazza,

Not sure if you have been in contact with anyone yet. First thing I'd do is open up the console and type in "/cg_drawfps 1 " without quotations so that we can see how much fps you are getting and if you are having any major drops.

Can you give a list of your computer specs as well? Ram, cpu, graphics card and monitor specs.

Cpu/ram/graphics card should be more than adequate for cod4, unless one of them has developed an issue. What size is the television in inches? What resolution?

Weird ethernet issue. So what exactly are you using for internet at the moment? Ethernet still or wireless?

Let me know what fps you are getting with that command, /cg_drawfps 1

You may have a new power supply, but there a lot of clues still there that there's an electrical supply problem, the only way you 'blow' things is that way. Continually blowing ethernet cables means the electrical load on them (current) is way beyond their design. So logically I think you have an incorrectly fitted (or faulty) router/ethernet card/usb port/ etc. However, as you say you ONLY have problems with cod 4 I'm stumped ? wtf does putting the table above the router solve?, damned if I know.

Oh WOW. Years ago we had serious problems with Static electricity on the cable wires which blew up a couple of our routers and Ethernet cables and Ethernet cards and 2 Ethernet ports on 2 different motherboards. This is caused by poor or no grounding on the poles and the building.

Simple way to fix that problem is to install a cable splitter with a ground lug in your outdoor cable box and pound in an 8 foot long copper ground rod into the ground near your cable box outside and run a heavy gauge wire to it. In the rite conditions there can be 600V+++ of static energy built up in the line wire.

Here is what I installed in our cable box to deal with static electricity.  I used to get the shit zapped out of me on a dry summers day if I touched the outer coating on the cable wire before the cable box.

Also you probably should get a monitor. Older TVs have ridiculously slow response time. It's basically adding a 25+ millisecond delay between when you see something move and when it actually moves. But your crappy connection issues and jerky movement can definitely be cause by bad grounding.

i'm in a shared house. The cables blowing only started as covid hit and we got a lot of power cuts, maybe to manpower shortages?

But they will blow in any of my three ports.

As for the table moving :P:P:P the wifi on the pc has ALWAYS been really crap, and if its anywhere else in my room it can't find the router.

The fact no other game is affected suggests something specific to cod4 itself obviously. We really need to see what kind of frames you are getting.

You could also look at doing a trace route to the cod4 servers and looking for issues there but looking at frames first is easier. Before that you could look at your ping in game and tell us roughly what it is and does it jump around at all, or is it reasonably stationary?

Can you post the traceroute? This happened to someone else a while back and happened to me once but it usually resolves itself within a week or two. I have read that using a vpn might be a way to try and reroute the traffic to avoid the bad hops potentially so it could be worth a try.

I don't think this is your issue. So it's showing you are getting 91ms to the server (mine is 83ms for comparison so not much different). I also get 15 hops with a few lines of ***. What is your in game ping? Does the number mostly stay the same or does it jump around a lot (say from 100 to 120 , up and down constantly?

I still think the most likely culprit is some sort of in game fps issue based upon you saying earlier that other games were ok. Let me know if you want/need some help to test this.

Really sounds like an fps issue to me. You need to use the command /cg_drawfps 1 in console to be able to view this. If you need help with this let me know. I've had several people with similar issues over the years that needed to turn some stuff way down and it fixed the issue. Not saying it is definitely this but that's what seems likely.

Happy birthday virtual 'son' lol

I would first check the game is being run in compatability mode, then after that it has to be a hardware issue, think you're right
