I have 2011 Ford f 150 and my trailer is about 6500 hundred lbs It used about 25 liters per 100 kg which is about 5 Canadian gallons per 60 miles. A 250 and diesel I think would be better but check it out on the internet.

Will follow this thread.

I am a noobie in this as well.  We bought a '20 RAM 1500 awd last year and planning on buying a light travel trailer since both the Mrs and I work remote.

Look for towing guides listed.  I found this guide for your model and year:

https://letstowthat.com/2013-2014-ford-150-towing-capacity/

4x4 and a bigger engine will help, but check the stats for the GVWR and axle ratios.

Here's the trailer we plan on purchasing due to the weight:

Makes a difference if your looking for a hitch pulled trailer or a 5th wheel style trailer.   That truck should pull the weight you said easily.  Make sure you have a good trailer brake system on it.  Makes a huge difference having a good module that will adjust how hard the trailer brakes are applied by how hard it senses you trying to stop

One big item to consider is not only the  towing capacity, but the pay load capacity as well.  In 2020 I purchased a F250 super duty to pull our 30 foot 5th wheel.  When you figure the pin weight in the bed of the truck along with any cargo in the bed of your truck as well as cargo you add to the rv, it can really add up.   I was looking at getting a diesel, however it added $10k to the purchase price and they are heavier in weight (heavier the engine, less payload available).    Just check every aspect you can before you jump into a purchase... And be careful what an RV sales-person tells you , they are trying to make a sale.  You may want to look at some rv user groups on facebook they are a wealth of information.

Plus consider what sorts of areas of this great country you plan to visit are and where you are most likely to spend the majority of your traveling time. If you plan to spend most of your time along the Coasts for example that is pretty level traveling but if you want to spend time in the Forests and Mountains of this great land that means more need for pulling power and stopping ability. Unless you are going to do this year round and plan to haul that trailer off road I don't see any need or benefit in 4X4 if you get a truck with some sort of traction control system/locking differential. You don't have to spend top dollar to get what will make your trips epic but don't skimp on the towing power even if you have to by a truck with a slightly bigger engine and different transmission. If your rating is say 12.000 lbs try as best as you can to not haul more than say 10,500 because you have not counted everything no one does and it's better safe than sorry and a big part of that rating is getting it stopped in a straight line. Good luck, my battleax wont do anything but a hotel or maybe a Bus RV she would make me park in some parking lot that calls itself a campground

I also have weight distribution bars and trailer hitch for them as well to take some of the weight off the truck. The hitch has to be set up for your truck so truck will be level and trailer runs level.

not sure if this was told but  trailer weight is one thing but you have to add the weight of all the stuff you had in .

propane tanks weight and also if your water tank if actually its filled with water.

electric brakes on trailers is mandatory and also make sure you have the trailer package option on your truck.

One last thing . every truck can haul at his limit of weight even get a bit over .

The real safety issue here is BRAKING , always keep in mind that your trailer gonna push your truck like crazy in emergency braking.

Keep your distance and always be aware in avance.

Pulling and braking with the primary being braking...Look into brake assist for sure as it is one thing to pull it but stopping it coming down a grade could be very bad
