Back in the day, I bought my daughter one of the small Savage .22 bolt action rifles. I wish this was around back then! MtDeW
 Awards

The other one had whatever was new in the way of mods, the barrel and receiver were the only original parts of any of them. Banana clips and speed loaders made for much fun at the range during local police practice weekly sessions. EastCoast50 and MtDeW
 Awards

I don't know about the kid thing tho When I was a Teenager '82-84 I worked at a Skeet/Trap/Pistol/Rifle range. The worse the weather the busier the skeet and trap fields were with Fathers bringing their 8-10 year olds out to teach them to shoot, because it was just like hunting...which was nothing compared to league nights where everyone was shitfaced. At a very young age, my parents exposed me to firearms, and the safe handling of them. I was taught to respect them, understand the responsibility of handling a firearm and not to fear them because I was uneducated about them. I was hunting on my own by the time I was 12 years old. Firearms are not evil. Untrained, uneducated people are. I cannot disagree with your position more. My Uncle taught me to shoot perfume bottles in the air w/his Winchester bolt action single shot, all before I was a teenager. We were taught how to respect firearms and how to use them properly. We also were taught to respect machinery, and understand the risks of being around tractors, balers, and combines. I'm 59, still have all my fingers & toes, both eyes & ears. I learned from people that were aware of their surroundings, and took precautions. I'll trust what's best for me, you decide what's best for you. BTW, still shooting the same 10-22 that I bought as a teenager. Timmah!, jointz, MtDeW and 1 other
 Awards

Hunters and shooters are the biggest conservationist in the state. Our license and fees largely support fish, game and wildlife conservation. Kids need more outdoor activities now days.
