It's interesting how the tougher cuts of meat, like a Boston Butt, loaded with connective tissue & collagen taste so amazing when cooked low n slow...allowing all that to slowly melt & baste the shit outta the meat.  Great, now I'm hungry again.

I love using my 8 quart crock pot on a Saturday morning to make Stew, Pot Roast, Pork Roast for pulled Pork BBQ sandwiches, Spaghetti Sauce from scratch using fresh tomatoes and herbs and ground Black Angus Sirloin and many more things for dinner that lasts for several days of dinners and has enough left over to freeze for a few weeks later without the prep work. Just finishing a bowl of Beef Stew I made for the Super Bowl so I could watch the game uninterrupted and now it is all gone. I used Tri-Tip Steaks that were reduced for quick sale to $4.00 per pound and after cooking it on low all day and adding the Red Spuds and baby carrots once the meat was hot it came out great and everyone loved it even after a 3rd night. Crock Pots rule if you know how to make big batches and aren't afraid to freeze some of the recipe so it doesn't spoil or folks get bored with leftovers. I have not figured out how to get a pair of big BREATS in it yet but working on that lol

You do exactly what I do!  People ask me why I make 2+ gallons of chilii; 15 pounds of lasagna at a time?  To which I reply:  Why do you just cook enough for one meal, when you can -with minimal additional effort- cook enough for 10+ meals?  The food's cheaper in bulk, & you're also saving on TIME.  I go one step farther, & sautee or caramelize a bag of onions at a time, portioning them into an ice cube tray, then pop them into a ziploc bag for later use.  Nice to have that on-hand to send that dish from nice to awesome.  Do that with meats, too.  Couple pounds of pulled chicken thighs, pork, ground beef.  Make a q;uick enchilada, or sloppy joe, chicken sammich, whatever.  Now that I have this instant pot, I can quickly cook from frozen.  Starting an indoor herb bench & worm farm to recycle my scrap veggies & feed the greens; that soft head of lettuce I forgot int he fridge is now some nice, fresh basil for that pizza I'ma slap out with a dough culture I procured from Italy.  Gonna have my own worm castings, for free...& fishing bait.  W00t.  Crumbled, portioned, frozen bacon, too.  Nice chili potato with some bacon crumbles, cheese, sour cream.  You can throw a lot of shit together quickly because it's already ready, or almost.  Can eat a great meal or snack for cheaper than some bland msg bomb burger that was constituted from bone scraps treated with lye & then centrifuged.  Time.  $.  Quality (just the way I like it).  Is the answer(s).

I live in Kentucky. A lot of rural farms not too far down the roads in any direction.  That, & I made friends with a butcher in a nearby small town, so he hooks me for basically their cost...plus the 10% markup the store charges on product.  Gonna have to buy another chest freezer.

One thing to consider when hoarding meat in your freezers... what if the power goes out?  Would all that meat rot?  2 cents  (The olden days they smoked their meat for long term storage.)   :hi:

I was a Boyscout...Be Prepared..in this case, I have several 1-gallon milk jugs filled with water that sit in my freezers & fridge for just such an occurrence... this has happened to me several times before where I last lived:  A squirrel farting on a sunny day would seemingly knock-out the power.  And with all the hardwood trees around, a relatively mild ice storm or a frisky thunderstorm would be a guarantee of no power for hours or a couple days...  Good lookin'-out!

Well, living here, I've literally dated the farmer's daughter on a few occasions.  Good way to earn money when you're a teenager, if you're not afraid of work, is local seasonal farm work.  Top tobacco, cut & stake later, hang in the rafters etc.  Get to know people in a rural area & a lot of basic needs can be had for a very reasonable price.  Plus, it always pays to be nice.  Get access to acres prime hunting & fishing spots... all kinds of goodies.  Met one of my girlfriends-past by running over her dad's barbed-wire fence & spending a summer afternoon reposting & stringing it when she brought lunch out to me.  But I digress...

By most standards, a happy one.  Good times with a pretty country girl in days of my youth.
