Finally!  Almost time to set-out my heirlooms for the season.  My mouth waters at the memory of gustatory bliss from seasons past.  This round - aside from the seed stock being refreshed- Cherokee Purple, Mr. Stripey, Brandywine Pink-Sudduth Strain-, Mortgage Lifter, German Queen, Brandywine Red, Paul Robeson & maybe a few others are my season's selection.

May be an image of outdoors

No tomato beats a good vine ripened tomato.  Most of the stuff bought at the grocery store is picked green and ripened with Ethylene gas.

They are pretty much  tasteless

Lovely. I used to have a job in a greenhouse watering Tomatoes all day all week 8 gallons on each plant. I nearly went crazy had green hands and smelled like Tomatoes all the time. Im off therapy now and back in love with those juicy babies.

It's the lack of key UV wavelengths, & maybe some far - infrared that caused greenhouse tomatoes to be bland.

Picking a mater when it's still mostly green doesn't negatively impact flavor.

You can pick one ripe & you would be hard-pressed to taste the difference from one picked from the same plant when mostly green & allowed to ripen on the counter...
