TigerSaw
Built a new gaming computer here's the spec's Asus ROG Strix Z690 Mother Board Intel i9 12900 CPU Nvidia RTX 3080ti GPU Termaltake 1050w RGB Power Supply Corsair Dominator 5600mhz Memory 32GB Astro A40 Gaming 7.1 Headset I played COD4 Modern warfare ver 1.7 on an old laptop it played fine. Loaded it on my new PC build it plays fine in single player but Multiplayer once i connect to server it downloads maps ect.. then when it starts loading into game bam it locks up game and I have to use task manager to end task. I loaded game from a CD, I uninstalled game and reloaded and patched the game to ver 1.7 same as the first time no luck same issue. I tried everything ive found to fix it. I moved my headset to a different plug in location, changed sound mix to enabled, all drivers are updated. The one thing I tried is to download COD4 from steam, it loaded ver 1.8 so I loaded multiplayer and looked for a server with players and boom it worked fine. So I looked up how to back down grade from 1.8 to 1.7 so I did it thinking it would work but when I went into multiplayer again Bam same crash. I'm a tech guy as you can see I built a gaming system. I'm at a loss, any ideas would be appreciated . I just tried multiplayer again i tried and started my own server and wham it started and ran fine??? Wow not getting this..... TigerSaw
thanks for the tip, it seems to run fine in single player and i just found out in multiplayer I started my own server and it worked its only when i join an outside server when it crashes, so i think its nothing to do with video drivers, if it was nothing would run right I'm thinking. Tw33tle_Dee
Have you looked in event viewer for any errors? Do you have a different headset to try just to rule that out? YACCster
YACCster
Yep, COD4 Multiplayer crashes are almost always audio related. WeednFeed and BlackRose
 Awards

Johnny3Time
I was having crashes on every map change, turns out it was simply my refresh rate in video settings was too high. Native 155Hz refresh rate on my monitor was causing it. Turned it down to 144Hz and hasn't crashed once in a week now.
 Awards

J3st3r
Make sure that you have a Microphone plugged in. Disable Stereo Mix in your Sound/Recording tab. COD4 Multiplayer will crash/lock up every time you join a server if your Mic isn't plugged in and setup and if you have Stereo Mix enabled. Technically it only runs as a 32-bit app as it is only 32-bit. Apple abandoned 32-bit years ago so you can't run it natively on modern macOS, I'm running my COD4 32-bit Intel binary just fine with virtualization and emulation on a modern 64-bit Mac M1, your mileage may vary. KaptCrunch
FAT32 vs NTFS is the issue Does NTFS work on M1 Mac? Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon Software is fully compatible with new Apple Silicon M1 Mac devices. Due to the new intuitive design and onscreen assistance, the installation process is easier than ever. NTFS for Mac allows your Mac to engage natively with the Microsoft NTFS file system. and Apple uses APFS With APFS for Windows, users are able to instantly access APFS-formatted hard disk drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs), or flash drives directly on Windows PCs. … Currently, there is no way to read APFS partitions with the tools provided by Apple's Boot Camp drivers or other Windows utilities. so to make it work, make game files on a FAT32 formatted flash drive then run from there under NTFS OS for Mac may use a converter to NTFS with M1 Edited May 20 by KaptCrunch apple work around ?
