I’m not sure why we have to argue over a silly “name” of a weapon. It’s semantic and it’s stupid. In 1994, President Clinton signed an assault-weapons ban, which banned the AR-15 and other similar semiautomatic rifles.

Here is a partial list where this weapon was used, among other weapons.

May 24, 2022: Uvalde elementary school shooting where 22 died including 19 children.

Feb. 14, 2018: Shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida leaves 17 people dead.

Oct. 1, 2017: The Las Vegas slaughter of 58 people.

Nov. 5, 2017: The Sutherland Springs, Texas, church shooting that claimed 26 lives.

June 12, 2016: The Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla., that left 49 dead.

Dec. 2, 2015: The San Bernardino, Calif., shooting that killed 14 people.

Dec. 14, 2012: The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut that took 27 lives.

Well Pete you called them "Assault Rifles" which is not true.  And the "Assault Rifle" ban did not ban AR-15's.  It banned gun manufacturers from selling  weapons with a magazine capacity over 10 rounds.  It required a "Fixed" stock and a "Pinned" flash suppressor.    Did that do anything to deter "Crazies" ?  No.  Anyone can go to an auction, gun show or any gun shop (online or brick & mortar) and buy parts to modify it.  You can replace the fixed stock with a collapsible one and even change the barrel and purchase "hi capacity" magazines.  The AR is the most popular rifle sold and is pretty reasonable in price.  So naturally it will be used more often.  Columbine was an Aimpoint 995 Mini and other "Non" AR-15 styles weapons.   If the most popular car produced cause more vehicular homicides from crazies running people over, do we ban them ????   Where does the banning stop ???  And do not forget it was a "legal" gun owner with an AR-15 that put a stop to the Southerland Springs shooters rampage.

This original topic was about your prime minister being an asshole. Those are policies dictated by the Canadian government, of which I must say I dont know a lot  about because I dont live there. I do not own a gun and have no wish to own a gun, But I understand the rights a US citizen has because I live here. Our country can use improvement just like any other country.  There is a word Patriotism that comes to mind when I hear peps trashing my country.  If you live here , trash away! And by the way I do not condone killing in any sense of the word, and the mass shootings were just horrible!  I guess what I'm trying to say is you should walk in a persons shoes before making judgement.

I am not sure where we are going with this, we are getting into the weeds on specifics when in reality it should be a discussion on the root cause. There are probably numerous ways to get around any restriction if you wish to. Either you have a passion to make a difference and push for changes, or your willing to except tragedies such as this and have the status quo.

I hope tragic events such as this will encourage people to push for some change.  Good points Mike.

This is a discussion about gun control and how we should address tragedies such as this. Harry is American (red, white and blue) with Canadian ties and I can truly appreciate his insight, hell I encourage it. We all have an opinion regardless where we are from.

This is not a question of patriotism for no one here is questioning ones intent or trash anyone's home. If your patriotism is fragile then I would suggest not talking about, with respect of course.  Its just a chat between idiots about something we all can be passionate about.

I was making the point that the term "Assault Rifle" can be used to describe any weapon used to "Assault" someone.  Hell a damn BB gun could be an "Assault" rifle if used to "Assault" some one.  See where I going ?   The term "Assault Rifle" is used as much as the term "Racist" by extremists' on the left to further their agenda.  We all know anyone who doesn't agree with them is "Racist" !!  How long till all gun owners are "Racist" !!!!!  Give them a few weeks.  🤣

I love hearing from hypocrites what "you" need. "You" need a 3'x6' cage with bars, a quart of dirty water & 1500 calories of crushed bugs a day to live. Until the day a Party member needs a new liver, kidneys, or pancreas, then "you" no longer need to go on living, "you" have served your purpose.
Think this can't happen? Ask the chinese Uyghurs.

I think I'll keep my 2A rights, thank you very much.

So here we go again. Harry is pissed that the liberal goverment in canada will fire up thE Left wing fruit cakes in the states.  I wish canada had such power.  As for the mass murder problems in the states the out of control gun violence. Just my opion.  This will never get solved with my right to own guns is more important than your idea of a safer society. Or my favorite my guns protect your damm safety. It just goes round and round . people die yes from guns people yes I know people kill people but they kill so many more with a big gun. So do not worry about what canada does to ban guns its such a small part of trying to end gun violence.

I just wish idiots would stop referring that the AR15 is an "Assault Rifle".  AR does not stand for "Assault Rifle".   And rifles based on the AR15 lower receiver design, come in many calibers, including shotguns.  So to ban a weapon based on looks is asinine.  But I do agree the application process for any weapon should be an in depth process.  I hold a couple different type of firearms license and the process for them was way, way, more stringent than just buying an over the counter gun.  Im talking, fingerprints, registering with the local sheriffs department, and a wait of several months for the detailed background check to get processed.  But..... thats for law abiding owners.  Criminals dont buy through local gun dealers.    In my neck of the woods every weekend there is a gun auction,  or an estate auction with guns going on.  No background checks at these events.  So this debate is pretty much a mute subject.

its tougher to get Jack Daniels when teen than owning a war weapon..
