Been researching drones for quite awhile and finally pulled the trigger.  I think seeing some of the member videos and photos helped speed things along in my buying process 🙂

Went with the DJI Mini 2 Fly More Combo.  Was simple enough to get setup with the controller and airborne in a little over an hour.  First flight I sent over my neighborhood then on the edge of the interstate... pretty sure you can't fly over them I could be wrong.  Regardless, I hit the home button and it was ascending to heaven.  Not sure if it was trying to catch up with the Webb Telescope or what, but I had to steer it back manually.  All-in-all, an exciting initial flight...

Must you of necessity register it before flight?

I believe if it is under 250g, a hobbyist can fly without registering with the FAA.  This baby weighs in at 249g.  Although I may pay the $5 fee if I share the pics and vids on any monetization platforms.

Do I have to register DJI mini 2?

If you have a sub-250 gram drone like the Mini 2, you'll only need to register if you plan on using it for commercial operations. Any drone registered for commercial operations, in case you're wondering, can be flown recreationally (meaning you don't need to register it twice).May 7, 2021

I've been really looking into the mini's too.  The extended battery puts them at like a 40 min flight time, but bumps ya over the 250g registration limit.  How is the camera?  My FPV limits are screwy, like max height is set in meters.  We are only allowed 400ft here in US.  I set mine to 400, and the return to home height at 200, not knowing it was meters.  So when I hit RTH it would start going waaay up, well 200m is like 600ft.   So, maybe double check that stuff.   I really wish these had a manual flying mode, but still very cool!  Does the mini have tracking features or cinamatic flight paths for doing videos?

Don't know much myself.  I would really recommend DJI, if you're in the market for drones.

so basically, what I gather it's a pretty low-end drone.  I have a few of these and they are fun to fly around, but... the camera quality, range, and limits of what it can do are pretty low.  I've heard the exo and holy stone drones were pretty good for lower priced drones.  I would look for a used mavic or mini, you'll be much happier with it.

I have this controller that will allow you to hook your smart phone up to the camera on your drone.  I think it will work with the mini.  If you want it PM me  with your address and I will ship it to you.  I have no use for it anymore.  I crashed my DJI in high winds lol and cannot use it any more.
