What @FRENCHI is trying to say in space language is that he has been beamed up by aliens and they performed multiple experients on him during a couple of months. In the Part where the Kids sing: "all in all it's just another brick in the wall" you can understand the German words "hol ihn, hol ihn unters Dach (another brick in the wall..)" which means: "get him, get him under the roof.." that is because one of the producers (he was german) suffered from depression caused by him beeing abused in his childhood. He hanged himself under the roof of the studio. As a tribute to him the other producers left that part in. This song is so deep!3 points

House construction question
KillerKitty and 2 others reacted to Hawk for a topic
I was wondering what the use is as well. I'm wondering if the courses of block and brick under those bearing points have cells grouted solid or not... It also looks like there is some minor water damage in that area as well. Do you plan on turning that into a closet or something useful? What is the abandoned joist hanger for? Why does it look like the first joist to the right of the opening isn't attached to the floor beam (no hanger, can't see any toenailed framing nails)? Looking at this, the 2x4 isn't doing anything. It literally isn't supporting the load of the floor above. The floor beam spanning that opening is doing all the work. You can cut that out and it won't affect anything. HOWEVER, based on the fact that it's bowing, there may be more of an issue than that sill plate. The floor beam spanning that opening is being overloaded and thus probably also bowing. There are a few options you can do. OPTION #1 - if you don't care about losing some of that space, or having access to the full 40" opening, you can get an adjustable steel column to and place it mid-span, to shore up and straighten the bow in the 2x4 sill. Then, add another 2x6 (or whatever the floor joist structure is) to span the opening, strengthening that area. Make sure you have a minimum of 6" of bearing on each end of that opening. If it doesn't bother you, leave the column in there. On the right side, take a 6x4 member, cut to the height of that brick wall, and place it at the right end, under the sill plate to allow for 5.25"(+/-) more of bearing at that end. Make sure the 6x4 is anchored to the wall, the floor and the sill, using steel straps. OPTION #2 (better option) - Purchase two 4x6 to use for columns at each end of the opening. Build a header to span over the two columns using (2) 2x8. Attach the columns to the wall and floor and the header. (See attached sketch) With either option, I would still attach another floor beam over that opening with a minimum 6" bearing each end. As for bearing at an opening, typically, for a 40" opening, you need a minimum 6" bearing on each end of the opening . Just FYI, I work in the structural engineering field. Currently employed in a full architecture/engineering firm in the structural engineering department.3 points -
Due to the long boring winter I stumbled upon things about UFO's on youtube, I was always dubious, but with the internet and tv/books I read and watched quite a bit. I'm not fully convinced but theres an awful lot of what I would call good witnesses, multi person sightings off ordinary people. As we have a lot of people reading these forums does anyone have experience of anything unusual that couldn't be explained, personally I have no strange sightings, interested if anyone else has.2 points

DM2 server spawn killing/spawn camping.
spinpuppy and one other reacted to 2_MANY_BEERS for a topic
Ok I added a 4 second timer for spawn protection. This gets you almost all the way down to the ground when you are on a parachute. Also there should be no more bitching about someone spawn camping cause this is allowed on this server. The rule is this. Spawn Killing is NOT allowed repeat Not allowed. With this timer a person has 4 seconds to get away from spawn. If they choose to stand there and get shot after 4 seconds that's their problem, not the game admins problem. We shouldn't be seeing anymore spawn killing/camping videos on the demo manager anymore for this server. TY Beers2 points -

Back in 1996, in June, during 5 oclock traffic, my wife and I were driving along loop 820 in Fort Worth. It was a typical clear sunny day in Texas. We were coming up on the Lake Worth bridge and we noticed something shiny in the sky. We both looked up and saw what appeared to be 3 shiny balls in a triangle formation, best way to describe was like pinballs, shiny and silver in color. They stayed in a triangle formation and were darting about in the sky over what was then General Dynamics, where F16 fighter jets were built. Also, adjacent to this factory was Carswell AFB. We crossed the bridge, then pulled over on to the shoulder, got out of my truck, sat on the tailgate, and watched these balls dart about, really quick, then hover motionless, then the triangle formation would spin slowly. Being a clear day, it was impossible to tell how high in the sky this thing was, or how large. Now remember, this is rush hour traffic, 3 lanes both ways on 820, heavy traffic, lots and lots of people saw us sitting on the tailgate looking up. There is just no way that we were the only ones that saw this. We watched this...thing or things zip around in the sky for about 5 minutes, it would zip west, then come right back to its previous position in a millisecond, slowly spin, than dart off again in another direction, then sit still in another location, like it was looking for something. And it was totally silent, and no vapor trail. After about 5 minutes, this thing simply zipped away to the west at an incredible speed, and vanished. So my wife and I are just stunned, we got back in the truck and left. On the news that night not a mention of anything over Lake Worth. There was boats on the lake, people saw us looking up, there had to be someone else that saw this "thing". In that area there is always aircraft due to the AFB, GenDynamics and multiple airports. While we were looking up, there were no other aircraft visible, and I was expecting a fighter jet to launch to investigate, but it didnt happen, at least not while we were watching. So, dont call us nuts, this did happen, I saw it, so did my wife2 points -

Gettysburg

Recently, I've heard several players mention that they want to visit Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, USA. If you have never been to Gettysburg -- or haven't visited in many years -- I highly recommend that you go. Fortunately, I live close by and frequently visit. Whether you make a day trip or a weekend out of it, there are plenty of places to stay, shops, restaurants, etc. I have some personal tips to offer, for what it's worth: - Try to schedule your trip in the spring or fall when the weather is warm. Gettysburg is packed with tourists during the summer months, and it's not very fun being out on the battlefield in 90 degree heat. - I highly recommend going to the "new" Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center. The museum has a large display of Civil War relics. I also recommend you watch the film A New Birth of Freedom in their theater, then move on to see the cyclorama. - Don't pay for a guided tour. It's really unnecessary as the signage and monuments are fairly self-explanatory. From time-to-time, you will come across a guided tour in progress and you can eavesdrop on the guide's lecture. - When you self-guide your way through the battlefields ... drive. You can stop, park and walk throughout the entire area. It's way too big to walk. - Visit the National Cemetery. Walk among the graves of the KIA and read their headstones. It makes you think. - Check out the shops and restaurants along Steinwehr Ave and around the downtown circle. You'll find a place that you'll enjoy. Trust me. - Finally, (if you have the time) a fairly short drive into southern Washington County, Maryland, will take you to Antietam Battlefield. For you military history buffs, along the way you can pass by and see Site R (PA Route 16), old Fort Ritchie and Site C above (MacAfee Hill Rd, Cascade, MD), Camp David (Park Central Rd Catoctin Mountain Park), and wind your way further south through Sharpsburg and onto Antietam. Just some friendly tips. Enjoy your trip! https://www.nps.gov/gett/index.htm1 point -

You got me interested in this, so I did some reading and it's fascinating, I'm glad that I did not have to fight there, the Civil war seemed particularly brutal for the participants. I'd like to learn more, any tips for good sources ( not YouTube etc )1 point -

House construction question
KillerKitty reacted to J3st3r for a topic
Hello no. There is very very little strength in a board that's turned sideways. That bottom board is the Seal plate. A seal plate is usually Pined or bolted to the foundation and the Joists are nailed to the seal plate. There needs to be some sort of Header installed since it is definitely load bearing. And a Reinforced Concrete Lintel will not be enough to hold that kind of load. 3 2x10s glued and screwed or glued and nailed together and 6" to 8" (or more if you want) wider than the opening. Use 3 2x10s minimal. Use 3x12s if you have room to get them in. That's ALOT of weight up there. An average sized fireplace and chimney can easily weigh 5 ton+ and that's just for the Brick work. Here this will help you Alot. Skip down to where it says Step 1. It's a bit of work but it will save your fireplace and chimney from crashing through the floor. Looks like you have some water staining on the joists. I would call someone in and have them inspect the brickwork after you jack up the floor and install the header. Brickwork can be resealed if they are not to bad. https://www.oneprojectcloser.com/how-to-replace-a-load-bearing-door-header/ I was a licensed and insured contractor before I got hurt. Me and my 5 man crew did the Framing, roofing, plumbing, electric and kitchen installs. My boss and his small 3 man group were the Masons. They did the foundations and concrete and stone work and driveways and sidewalks. Then we had a 6 man Finishing crew that did all of the pretty stuff like insulation, drywall, flooring, paint, trim and siding. We contracted out the HVAC stuff for insurance purposes.1 point -

The Licensed Guided Double Decker Tour is absolutely epic. We were on the top floor which has no roof. Just make 100% sure that it is not going to rain and bring plenty of Sun Block. Save up a few bucks and do it. It will be the most memorable thing you do for a long time. http://www.gettysburgbattlefieldtours.com/gettysburg-tours/gettysburg-tours/licensed-guided-double-decker-tour/ Last time I did the tour I was 14 years old and went with the whole family including my Grandpa and Grandma. I still remember most of that trip like it was yesterday and that was 32 years ago. It takes 3-4 days to see everything so plan on staying for the week. You will not regret it. There are wooded camp grounds all over the place about 5 miles south of Gettysburg. Perfect for a motor home or travel trailer or even a large tent. If I go again I'll be camping out in a tent and I'll be bringing my scooter. A bit to much to walk everywhere and traffic can be ridicules especially around the 4th of July up untill Oktoberfest. lol THIS might be fun if ya have a place to pass out. Little Round Top. Colonel Chamberlain, Captain Spear, Captain Morrill. Strong Vincent; Colonel Patrick O'rorke. Many people didn't get the credit they deserved. A lot of shit went down leading up to and during that crucial bayonet charge of a critical battle of Gettysburg. Chamberlain himself was gonna have his face blown off, but the pistol misfired. The left flank of the 20th's charge was almost repelled, but for a surprise volley in the ass of the Confederates by Captain Morrill's Company B; Color Sergeant Tozier standing firm as a rallying point while under heavy fire; The presence of the 2nd Maine's seasoned mutineers dispersed among the 20th's ranks; Stoughton's sharpshooters; You could read for days on that charge, Little Round Top, Gettysburg and the events, decisions leading up to & influencing them.1 point
