At 28 years of age you have got a whole lot of living to do and if you can find a career that makes you want to get up in the morning and head off to work then go for it.
I've made some career (and country) changes in my time, and it has all worked out really well. As a matter of fact I start a new job tomorrow after 20 years at my last - and I'm 61!
Sorry I can't help with any NHS advice, but you're on your first step and I'm sure you will do well.
