On Monday we had a grand celebration to honor fallen firefighter Trevor Brown.
We had over 3,000 first responders at his service.  We filled Cornerstone Chapel to it's absolute gills.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house, and it was spectacular.  I really love my fire and ems family.
Here is a post I made on the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company facebook page on Monday night.  I feel every word of it.
It's just a short video I made from cameras I mounted on the engine carrying his remains.  It's just the arrival at Cornerstone Chapel.
But man does it tell a story.....yours truly is on the left side at 1:03 with his face stuck in his camera....what else is new?  😃

RIP Trevor Brown.
And to top it all off, I found out that one of our past Chief's passed away this morning.  His will be the third funeral my company has held in as many months....  😥

My parents are still around. Dad 95 and mom 93. Dad's care just stepped up a bit. He now needs help getting into and out of his chair. Difficult moments ahead.
He is not expected to make it through the year.
When I read about your work with the elderly and how you like to help them, it did touch me. Thank you so much for what you do Queenie. Truly, appreciate you...

    Why do you like your job? Because I love to hear stories of my residents pasts and they are all so interesting. And being able to soend time with them is so satisfying. They can be so lonely.

    What are some accomplishments you've achieved during your career? Started out as a CNA and worked hard
    Describe a time that your career was rewarding. I had a dying patient put their hand on my face one time and thanked me for all my care and love. 
    If you could give a younger person career advice, what would it be? Start collecting 401 k stat
    What is your favorite thing about your career or industry? Some days I get to do activities with my residents and it can be so fun. 
    What is a valuable lesson you learned in your career? Getting old is a bitch. 
    What do you hope to accomplish in your career? Having the satisfaction of making everyone feel loved and safe.

    Do you play any sports? Used to play softball, volleyball and ski
    If you were granted 1 wish, what would you wish for? Honestly, I'd wish for all my friends and family to be safe happy and cared for throughout their life. 

Here is a video we pulled together from the silent procession on Tuesday if you're interested in seeing it.  It's almost 7 minutes long.  I had put two GoPros on the truck that we had in the procession plus photographers from all over the route.   Trevor's funeral will be Monday March 4th.  I am sure it will be all over the news.
 

So sorry for this loss. Prayers to Trevor and his family, and to you and yours...

Some of you have probably seen the reports of the tragedy that not only happened in my neighborhood (5 houses down!) but also struck my firefighter family last night.
Many of you may (or may not) know that I have been volunteering at the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company for the past 15 years.
Last night my wife and I were finishing our dinner when I noticed a dispatch on my cell phone for an outside gas leak just up the street from my house.
These are generally routine calls, however, last night was anything but normal.  
Our crews arrived on scene to find an underground 500 gallon propane tank leaking.  As they normally do, they request a hazardous materials response to assist with these types of calls.
Within seconds the home literally exploded.  Our house shook like a plane crashed on it.  I bolted out front and saw the huge plume of smoke and a fireball that was taller than the trees.  I immediately knew what happened.
As a company photographer I grabbed my boots and my camera and bolted.  I was there in less than 3 minutes after the blast.  It was literally like a war zone.
We lost a brother last night.  And 7 others from my fire company were severely injured.  A few were released this morning, but others remain in the hospital.  Please say a prayer for them all.....
I want to thank those of you that reached out to me this morning.  You have no idea how much that means to me. 
 My wife and I, and our house are fine.  We are devastated at the loss of our beloved friend firefighter Trevor Brown.  And we are anxious to get the rest of our firefighters out of the hospital.
Please keep them all in your prayers....

Surgery went well. I'm home now, in a lot of pain, but home.
