Perhaps you should place the blame on those that actually use the slaves to begin with. Free trade deals or not.

For many, the economy is not a surprise. The surprise was this guy winning 2 terms, and still thought of by many as doing a great job.

It may not be fun to listen to the news sources one does not "support", but when you listen to a bit from both "sides" you are able to decipher much more of the information and make a better determination as to which is likely more and which is the misinformation, the deception.

I don't blame the one percenters. Hell I was one myself 10 years ago. I blame our poorly managed government that has forced American industry to operate overseas, and a poorly managed government that's allowed foriegn industry to operate in the US forcing US industry to slash jobs and wages. I also blame Obama care for driving my company out of business and making health care so expensive that most working class Americans can no longer afford it. Of course this was their plan all along. Collapse the private insurance market so the only alternative would be a single payer system run completely by the feds, who can't do anything right.

Yeah, I'm all for getting rid of everybody in office and starting fresh. Politicians are the lowest form of scum on earth.

Nothing about government. Just simple business economics. Go where you can make your product that is just good enough to sell and to make it as cheaply as possible. Both in material and labor. Now of course one solution to that is to reduce everyones wages here to be the same as in bangladesh. With the hope that companies will move back here. Also change it so they dont have to worry aboot killing us all with all the toxins needed to make their shit.

I have worked in healthcare my entire career on both sides of the border and I see the positives and negatives to both private and single pay. Like you Steve, I would be worried if the government took over as well. All other countries went to a single pay system when governments were a lot more honorable 50 or so years ago. They are now institutions and most countries are proud of. It's not perfect and there huge holes that needs to be addressed but they do their best to do right by the people they care for.

Sadly a little of that is missing in the US. My oldest is an ICU nurse in Washington State who graduated in Canada. She came home and bought 4 epipens, cost at 108.00 CAD each. She said they were almost 500.00 USD each in the states. I'm all for making a good living and I have in this field but I don't believe anyone has the right to become wealthy on the backs of others illness. That's shameful behavior. That was norm even when my girls were born in the US.

I agree, things have to change, and it's beyond a change in government. It's society itself. And how we want to treat the sick.

Good post Steve

Yep, the 1% are not to blame, but that is the mantra of the left. The saying is used to increase taxes on all of us, thereby diminishing the middle class as has been occurring during the current administration. Each election cycle brings the same accusations to create the same fears in an attempt to leave the same measures of control. The establishment enjoy their positions in government, their pay, their benefits, and their retirement programs. Did I leave out the growing control over the people?

In a fashion, I see Trump as the "third party" candidate, although running on the Republican ticket. Neither side like him, both sides want him to lose, and many people seem to believe he is a "conservative" Republican in the same way they believe Obama was a "liberal" Democrat.

The healthcare, moving to a system yet of more government elite control, just like the countries overseas who this nation was established to avoid. America was about the people in control, not s structure of elitists in control.

I don't blame the 1% either. Business economics? Who wants to do business within a nation that has the most, and continually changing laws and regulations on the planet. You have to keep a massive staff of HR and attorneys to keep abreast of the daily additions. One false step and you're libel for bankrupting fines. None of our politicians show any desire to change course, because they all benefit from the laws they've enacted.

This is all the evidence you need to realize we are charting into disaster.

I made more 10 years ago than I do now...things were much cheaper back then too...Obamacare was the biggest hurt, had to shut down my small business, layoff all 10 workers, loss my healthcare, ended up in the hospital...still paying on those bills today....

Good times...

It's funny, when I was trying to warn people about the steady downturn, People including some here called me "Batshit Crazy"...

Seeing it coming and watching it happen has been tough.

When you run your own business, you can smell trouble before it happens.

Oh Well, Hopefully it will make better people out of all who suffer and realize what needs to happen.

Sparty my financial adviser customer said the market is heading for a rest. Thing is she has no idea how bad this one will be.

2008 is going to look like a walk in the park in comparison.

America's downfall, financially, culturally and in every other respect, is due to a single word: "Liberalism."

Doom and gloom, a fiscal cliff is still a cliff no matter what painting you hang in front of it. Mocking those who point out the obvious reminds me of the OKW generals who refused to denounce the Nazi leadership, until you read the lists of bribes paid through Konto 5 to ensure loyalty. Who is paying you off?

You can put lipstick on a pig and it will still be a pig. Democratic government or Republican government, call it liberal or conservative... the common denominator is "government". We all are fooling ourselves into thinking that who we voted for was better than the last. At some point in history, our government forgot how to be honorable regardless who they were.

Yes, to a point you are right Pete....

I think they are all on the Payroll to the Real Owners of this Country.

And the  Real Owners  have moved their investments to Asia.

Can you say NAFTA?? Ever since Clinton signed it (and Bush kept it) we have lost 1/3 of our manufacturing jobs to other countries with lower wages and benefits...

Try again. Bush sr negotiated everything and signed it with all the other nations party to it. He tried to get the senate to ratify it quickly. But they refused to be rushed as always, especially in an election year. Then Clinton was elected. They ratified the treaty... the only ones allowed under the Constitution to do so... and he signed it into law. Now if you want to say Clinton was wrong because he didnt trash the Bush negotiated treaty... that was already agreed to and signed... on his first day in office then that is another issue.

If anything, blame the Reagan inspired trickle down economics that is still the Republican mantra. A good idea in theory, *if* the US had no overseas competition and it was illegal for domestic corporations to make anything outside of the country and import it. But along came India, China, and all the rest. Know who is most to blame tho? Given the choice between an expensive but marginal quality domestic product... or a cheap piece of shit from China... most go for the piece of shit.

North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is signed into law by President Bill Clinton. Clinton said he hoped the agreement would encourage other nations to work toward a broader world-trade pact.

NAFTA, a trade pact between the United States, Canada, and Mexico, eliminated virtually all tariffs and trade restrictions between the three nations. The passage of NAFTA was one of Clinton’s first major victories as the first Democratic president in 12 years–though the movement for free trade in North America had begun as a Republican initiative.

During its planning stages, NAFTA was heavily criticized by Reform Party presidential candidate Ross Perot, who argued that if NAFTA was passed, Americans would hear a “giant sucking sound” of American companies fleeing the United States for Mexico, where employees would work for less pay and without benefits. The pact, which took effect on January 1, 1994, created the world’s largest free-trade zone.

NAFTA Also allows Foreign Nations to buy Goods from the USA Through Canada and Mexico CHEAPER than Americans can buy them.

This has almost but destroyed Small and Mid level Lumber Yards due to they cannot keep up with the Big Ones. Try calling for Wood from one of the Big Company's and they tell you "All of our wood has been spoken for and we cannot sell you anything". That's because it goes to Canada and Mexico and gets sold there to Foreign Nations. Much of it goes to China, where it is manufactured into Building supplies and then Sold back Here at Lowe's, Home Depot and Lumber Liquidators. This kills American Jobs because you cannot compete with the Slave Wages China pays and sell it without a Loss.

I had a friend that made regular runs to Canada to buy Wood Flooring made in the USA that where sold their much cheaper than you can buy in the USA!

And No, it just was not the Currency exchange rate that helped with the discount.

What did they teach you in school growing up?

DO NOT ALLOW SUCH MONOPOLYS  Ever to Control the Market.

And here we are.

Also, if Food is Imported into Mexico and Canada from the #1 Poisoner Of Food in the World China, they don't have to label the Country of Origin anymore while they sell it here in North America.
