Normally I don't follow football players much or know who they are when they pass, but I want to give Bob St. Clair a mention. He and my dad have been best friends for 20 years and my dad is pretty torn up about his passing.

Even at age 84, Bob still stood 6'10" tall and was one of the funniest men I've ever known in my life and could tell stories about the glory days of football like no other. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in  1953 and was team captain from 57 to 59.

As a young boy he gained a taste for raw beef and would frequently gross out the rookies with the 49ers by sitting at a table in the lunch room munching raw steak and letting the blood run down his face while growling. Needless to say the rookies never fucked with him. I last saw him at my parents house this past Christmas and he was eating a piece of raw beef that night as well.

He fell and broke his hip in late February and just couldn't get back on his feet. He died Monday night about an hour after my dad went to see him. He will be missed.

Full story and a great video about him at this link.
