  1. OK, I have been playing COD5 (usually just FFA games) for about 6 months and started playing COD4 a couple months ago. Just curious, are there any XI servers for FFA games in COD4? I have been having quite a bit of fun with COD4 on the servers that appear in the list, but I have a feeling there are XI servers out there and I just need to figure out how to get to them... I define "noob". Is there a place to go for us newbies when it comes to learning how to participate in coop games? Most of my gaming life has been spent on flight sims (Falcon), so it has been quite some time since I've done much online gaming and pretty much never any team stuff. I've been a little chicken to join because I have no idea what to do and don't want to piss off any of my new XI friends when I accidentally shoot someone in the back I tried joining a freezetag game once and left after about 30 seconds... Now that I finally have my headset working after upgrading to Win7, I'm ready to try! My final question is about hardware... I assemble my own PC's, like many here probably do, but I have no clue about the keyboard and mouse (or controller) that works best with FPS games. My wireless mouse/kbd are clearly not cutting it. Any consensus? I tried my son's x-box controller (on his x-box) and pretty much failed miserably. I am leaning towards a lighted keyboard, but that is not a deal breaker. If an X-Box style controller will work better in the long run, I can bite the bullet... My son will use it on his pc if I don't. Thanks for reading this far!!! 2. I believe that... Did a clean install on my son's PC, which was as quick an install as I have ever done! He was up and running literally in minutes. Mine was a nightmare of programs that did not run, drivers not upgraded, etc... I spent more time cleaning it up than I would have installing everything again. Turns out my problem was with the wireless adapter. It worked fine under Vista 64 but did not work under Win 7 64. The adapter that I had problems with under Vista works fine with 7. Go figure!!!! What a PITA!!!!
  3. Thanks LABob. My home was "wired with cat 5" but the cables were run for phones by someone who has obviously never wired anything for computers - which is why I am wireless. I dread any kind of cable pulls (another reason we are wireless). Up until now our pings have been decent - in the 50's. We are on IFITL, which although now obsolete, is usually quite responsive and reliable. I may just have to bite the bullet. sigh.... I could probably adapt the wiring in my attic to minize pulling cable by using a switch, but I have so many things to do in front of this... My son has his X-Box wireless to the router and never complains (22 y/o college student who is a serious gamer). I will give your suggestions a shot and se what happens. Thanks again. Kurt
  4. It may just be coincidence, but after upgrading to Windows 7, COD 4 and 5 both started flashing the "connection interrupted" symbol randomly and frequently, with the stalling and jittery game play you would expect (impossible to play). I did a bunch of tests at random times on Speedtest.net and found that my speeds were fine but line quality (packet loss and jitter) were only so-so. My son has not complained about gaming on his X-Box (Modern Warfare 2), which makes me suspicious of Win 7 on my PC. We are wireless through a D-link DIR-655 N router, which has not given me any probems in the year or two we have been using it. Any suggestions? I need my fix!!! Thanks, Not-so-old man Kurt
  5. Been playing online for a couple months and thought it would be polite to drop in and introduce myself. My name is Kurt and I live in Suwanee, Georgia, USA which is a small town in metro Atlanta. I'm 48, which apparently is not all that old compared to the guys I run into online! I have two boys in college who play different x-box versions of CoD, but I could never re-program my brain to get the hang of the controller... Anyway, I appreciate the server and appreciate the group that is there. I have a microphone on order and will be joining in on that element of the game soon. The screen name was really just a joke directed at my kids, expecting to find a younger crowd online. I suppose were I on the xbox that might be the case? "See" everyone online soon. Kurt
