If you are on Oahu i can give you some pointers where to go for "real" hawaii, not the touristy bullshit in waikiki and at Germaines Luau and all that crap. Just be careful driving and if you are off the beaten path show respect to the locals and all should be well. Awards

Take the Kalanianaole hwy east past Hanauma bay(which is kickass if you can get parking...go early) past Sandy beach (great bodysurfing spot, but dangerous if big on the shore) until the road bends by the lighthouse. There is a lookout on the hwy above the bay, which is great for pics...go down further and the parking lot is on the right. It is truly the quintessential hawaiin playground and stunningly beautiful. If you keep following the hwy through Waimanalo to bellows beahc, that is also awesome..with the Koolau mountains shooting straight up on your left. just be wary in the water...small waves but with onshore breeze portuguese manowar drift on the wind to the beach...and that shit hurts..belive me!!!!! If your lucky might get to see some big surf on the north shore, Season is just starting. Parking there sucks..especially at Ehukai beach park..home of the Pipeline.....also parking sucks at Waimea unless you go early...that is if surf is up. if in a rental DO NOT leave anyhting valueable in it there as it may not be there when you return. Locals can be assholes and like to prey on tourist for fun and to "teach them a lesson"...Stupid hawaiians..and there are alot of em. But thems my people, so my take is a little different. BTW you must eat korean food at any KIM CHEE reataurant..awesome. And eat at Zippy's...its the local chain...get the zippy;s surfpac...great after a day at the beach!!!
