i just went through an ordeal with punkbuster. i have a question for you,. when PB kicks does it say communication failure pnkbstr B fails to initialize ?

as for updating just go to evenbalance.com then go to the section for COD4 and they have some simple instructions to manually update and while you are there you might also want to download pbsetup.exe then run that as well. i only hope you have a simple update problem.

they have a deauthorization tool you can download and wipe out all your previous info. i think i found it at game spot but i think game burn world may have it too. maybe i will see you tomorrow i intend to reinstall crysis warhead and crysis wars in the morning. btw electronic arts are really bad about making us jump thru a bunch of needless hoops (they are real jerks about that)

Howdy everybody,

well after much toil and trouble i finally was backed into a corner and i need to take some action. the only thing i hadn't done was was reload the whole system. so at 6:30 pm last night i moved any needed files from my 'c' drive to my 'd' drive and then proceeded to reformat the drive and reinstall windows xp. by 9:30pm i had a functioning machine again. the only thing was to get the rest of the drivers so i could move on to loading COD4 and by 11:00pm i was playing cod4. so i made pretty good time with the reinstall. at present i am loading the rest of my needed programs. tomorrow i will load the rest of my games.

i really want to thank all of you for the support during my crysis .eventhough we did not actually fix the machine the support was great. that is what forums like this one are for. you all did good !

well i guess thats it. i intend to reload windows xp and start over. maybe i will see you all about 11:00 pm tonight with a fresh system. i will never forgive evenbalance for this. if i have the same problem after this we will know its pb.

howdy again,

i had the cable guy give me a new modem this morning as well he checked the connection and all cables are great and i have a perfect connection and it still did not help. so i have done to date ;

1. i reinstalled cod4 and patched it to v1.7.

2. i uninstalled PB, deleted all related files then i reinstalled PB with their pbsvc.exe after that i updated with pbsetup.exe i checked the pb dir in cod4 folder and all files are up to date (no need for manual update)

3. i uninstalled avast anti-virus with their clean uninstall program which leaves no remnant of the program or its reg entries.

4. i have no firewall at all

5.i uninstalled the lan card drivers and reinstalled them.

i don't know what to do nothing seems to work. i can play on servers that do not use pb fine, but pb servers will immediately will kick. and that is across the board not just xi servers but all.

those of you who are getting kicked are you getting a message on screen saying something like "service communication failure: pnkbstrB.exe initialization failed" ? i really need to know this i am seriously considering reloading windows. i am just that desperate at this time.

well i have the cable company coming tomorrow to check all the lines interior and exterior, also i am having them install a new modem. i just finished reinstalling my lan card drivers (didn't help). i have done just about everything that can be thought of and then some. i am still waiting on the incredibly slow wheels at evenbalance to turn out some solution. never can tell what they will do if they do anything at all .

p.s. sono thats what manual update is all about. when you run pbsetup.exe it runs and finds these links and puts them in the right directory. when you manually update you go to evenbalance find the latest files you need and save them into the correct dir yourself. see you

in the last few days i have not only manually updated my pb but i also have used the pbsetup.exe as well thats all been done every time i have reinstalled in the past few days as a matter of fact last night as i reinstalled the game for the third time i used pbsetup.exe and did the manual on top of that. hasn't helped at all i also defraged my drive last night i never have a firewall at all they are usually more trouble than they are worth. the antivirus i have only runs when i tell it to.

now it is my understanding that to manually update that you just go to that section where your game updates are at pb and simply copy a couple of links into the htm dir in the pb dir. not that tough

also boomer i agree with you pb sucks.!

i would gladly add you to xfire but i don't use their service. i disabled my xfire over three years ago having suspected them of causing e-mail spams and suspecting them of getting into my personal stuff. sorry but we can surely keep in close contact thru this site.

as for sharing your pb archive i am game for that if it will work. how would we do this ??? i really appreciate the help and suggestions from all of you.

well Yoda i took your advice and took a close look at the drive. it was fragmented so i defraged the drive and it did no good.. so back to square one and i am still having problems. thanks much for the input all of you maybe if we keep at this thing we will find out whats wrong. i still have feelings its all punkbusters fault. btw all of you remember i have no firewall running and in have all antivirus setup so that it will only run if i call upon it. i have installed cod4 for the 3rd time in the last two days, all this came about since that fateful day may 14, 2012 (a day of infamy) pb and their crappy update. still need help,

p.s. also remember i can play other games using pb and no problems. the game included are cod2 and crysis wars.and i can play cod4 on servers that have pb turned off

P.S. i can play other games online with no problem, so it would seem that there are also no connection issues. pings are good as well.

all anti-virus and firewalls are off. all i know is that one night i was playing well (no modifications on my part) and then i wake up and tried to log on and this fiasco started. its all punkbusters fault it would seem, it also appears to be happening to many other pc users as myself. i don't know what else to do.

hey again,

i just finished uninstalling COD4 and anything related to it, then i reinstalled the game. then having not coping my old profile in the cod dir i played the game. it still kicks me. its unreal. it says punkbstr 'B" fails to initiate. i then looked at the taskmaster and only punkbstr 'A' seems to be running. has anyone come up with any solutions yet ? i have tried everything i know. tomorrow i am going to call the cable co. and get them to take a look at the lines as well as my cable modem (i don't thing that the cable is the problem) please let me know if you have come up with anything.

WHAT ABOUT PC USERS ? I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD ANY SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PLAY SINCE LAST SUNDAY. NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE ANY ANSWERS. I PUT A TICKET INTO EVENBALANCE BUT THEY HAVE NOT GIVEN ME ANY FIX , DO ANY OF YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO ?

its clearly a punkbuster problem. i have played on servers not using PB and my game works as usual no prob's whatever. i have dumped my mods and usermaps folders completely, thinking they might be corrupt but to no avail. the pb problem still exists. i also uninstalled my pb and reinstalled it and that did no good either. i have always hated PB to begin with and this is why, it seems to cause more problems than it prevents.

hey folks,

i see you all have a forum for crysis but do you have a server ? i would that they had a crysis server that was english speaking. also it would be nice if the servers were setup more like the mods we use in cod.

i.e.1 in the crysis servers that exist you have to purchase all your weapons (and that takes time time time) then you go out to fight you get killed and your setup is lost and you have to go thru the process of purchase again and again. thats bs ! it should at least remember your last setup and respawn you with the same untill you earn enough to upgrade that setup.

i.e.2 there seems to be no admin. support so there is no help for newcomers.

i.e.3 the servers ridiculously disorganized

plus other stuff such as bad maps , physics are out of whack and need to be adjusted et'c. et'c. et'c.

YOU GAVE A LINK FOR MAC USER FIX BUT WHAT ABOUT US PC USERS. I STILL HAVE NO WAY TO GET IN ANY SERVER EXCEPT NON-PB SERVERS (CLEARLY PUNKBUSTER IS AT FAULT FOR ALL THIS SHIT) THIS PB CRAP IS UNBELIEVEABLE, I HAVE BEEN 4 DAYS AND STILL I CAN NOT PLAY AND NO FIX IN SIGHT(THE PEOPLE AT EVENBALANCE SHOULD HAVE THEIR ASS KICKED FOR THIS ONE) THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WAS THIS TEMPERAMENTAL. SO HAS ANYONE FOUND A FIX FOR ALL OF US TO USE ???

hey folks,

i have a temporary solution that can and will work untill evenbalance gets off their asses and fixes this problem. just turn off punkbuster for the duration that it takes evenbalance to get it fixed. this idea probably scares the hell out of many of the admin. but i just came back from playing cod4 on a server that does not use pb and it went smoothly. they had admins that were active and busy keeping the peace, and it works perfectly. most servers have the power to ban and keep troublemakers out without pb. remember its only a temporary fix. pb will eventually get fixed. btw i was playing a reg cod4 server and no problems so that rules out connection issues for my machine. it will work fine and we will probably have lower oings too.

well,

it would appear that many are still being kicked. so i have come up with a temporary solution. turn punkbuster off untill they fix it and use Aeon instead. you will probably freak as i suggest this but it will solve certain problems untill we can get a permanant fix for pb. then maybe we can get on with the gaming.
