Hope all is well. I re-installed COD4 with the patch updates that I have had saved for years since they were released.  I'm running 1.7.568 but just about every server I join I get  " Error Cannot connect to server because the update backend is unavailable. To join this server, you have to install this update manually. Please visit  www.cod4x.ovh/clupdate." any chance someone could help me out and guide me in the right direction. Thanks A Bunch!

It’s been some years, so I’m assuming it’s best I use the original disk and install all of the patches? 
i have all the patches saved on an external from years back.

do we need the original game from 2007 and the patches in order to play or the steam version will work.

Hi all, i quickly looked at the forums to see if i could figure this out and also the net....I just upgraded my gtx card to a 570 then did a full windows vista format to my pc....I installed all of my other games and they are running perfect....For some crazy reason cod4 will not find any servers at all and also now im getting an error message saying that there is a hardware change everytime i start cod4....Like i said, i did a complete, not a quick, reformat of vista ultimate that i ran for the past 4 with this game.. Can anyone help me!......

Boy thks Rick for helping but im having a shit ton of trouble getting these patches to download!.. this is nuts..Is there a bulk patch so i can skip say 1.0 to 1.6 then get 1.7?... file front dosent carry them anymore, its asking me to find them when i try to download them!..This would be a big help!..Thanks...

So thanks for you guys responding to my question, but has anyone of you guys actually changed the fov ( field of view)  setting using those instructions some of you guys gave me?.. Im curious to see if it works!...

It's not allowed.  They didn't want you to change the FOV and therefore gain some advantage.

They want you to play the game the way THEY intended...
