I just got done with another pipe!

This is the second pipe I've ever made and it's a Christmas / wedding present for my best friend. (who likes pipes)

Stummel: Briar I bought on ebay.

Stem: The heart of a 4" limb from a White Cedar tree.

Ring: Bronze coupling from lowes hardware.

Mouth Piece: Re-purposed from a broken old pipe.

When I smoke I don't actually in-hale. And, I only smoke a few times a month. I'm doing my best to avoid an addiction and health risk. ;)

Thanks btw!

Well... then what would I do with my engineering degree I'm working on?  lol  ;)

This is like $20 of parts / wax + polish... and about 20 hours of work.

How much would it go for on ebay? It prolly won't come out to much of an hourly rate.

Thank you btw! It's a very satisfying feeling when you finish something like this!! ;)

Very nice and if nothing else you could do it as a hobby to start and get your name out there. Hand made and one of a kind items can draw big money.

SWEET!

Very nice.

I quit smoking years ago but still enjoy the smell of a good pipe tobacco.

Will using cedar change the taste of the tobacco?

Yes, and unfortunately a bit more than i anticipated... I'm hoping it will air out a bit over the next month. My previous cedar stem wasn't anywhere near this strong smelling.

When I made pipes in the past they needed to get broke in so to speak and I suspect the same for your pipes. Once the oils and resins begin forming inside the pipe and coat the inside those "aromas of cedar should go away . .  .If not  . .well you will just have to use a different type of wood.

I had good luck with  Ash (same wood as some  baseball bats are made of . . .  A very light colored hard wood)

Black walnut (a nice dark wood fairly hard . . .made a nice contrast with the Ash)

You might give Hickory a try also.

keep posting pics of your projects  . .we might be >Idiots< but we know a good pipe

Hickory would look nice. I think I would just need a piece with fewer knots. Hickory tends to have a lot of voided knots.. (empty or sappy)
