  1. A regional first-generation Dash-8 turboprop at 20,000 feet, flown by Air Canada Jazz, a partner airline to Air Canada. Also hand-held at 250mm. The original image is much sharper than this compressed version. I'll post the full version.
  2. This is a crop from a hand-held shot taken with an image-stabilized zoom lens at 250mm, sharpened and contrast enhanced in PhotoShop. It's a 747 at 34-36,000 feet. Based on what I could make out of the logo, tail markings, and a ton of research from there, it's a cargo flight owned by CargoLux, the biggest cargo carrier in Europe based in Luxembourg. http://www.cargolux.com/. I'm totally fascinated by aircraft and take every opportunity to catch a shot of a passing flight. SW Ontario, Canada, is one of the busiest air corridors in North America. At any given time (given light and atmospheric conditions conducive to contrails), I can count up to a dozen aircraft in view at most times. I've attached the full file as well as it's sharper and shows more detail.
  3. Hi all, The pings tonight were fluctuating wildly. Gameplay tonight got seriously degraded because of it. My pings are usually between 40-55 when things are going fine. Even when pings looked normal, there was some serious stuttering. These 4 screenshots were taken within 5 minutes, from 10:15-10:20 PM Eastern Time, and are representative of what started after 9:00 PM. At 10:30, 15 people are on the server and the problem remains. Can you take a look into this problem please admins and @rugger?
  4. Nice ones Labob. Love the crow!
  5. Good shots Gatorgirl. I love hummingbirds.
  6. Ok, I see that you can embed a photo using the regular editor, or if you use the full editor, you can attach a thumbnail. If you click on the thumbnail, it displays the image full-size. The embedded image stays the size that it displays as in the message. Good to know.
  7. The edge of a supercell that dropped a couple of tornadoes this past summer.
  8. A lightning shot from this past September, and a detail from that shot. I focused the camera to infinity and had mounted in the shoe a lightning detector built by a friend of mine. It has a 2 micro-second response time. You tune it for the ambient lighting conditions and once it detects a change in light intensity, it triggers the shutter.
  9. Nice shots, LOM! The comet, misty valley, and close up wild grasses are my 3 faves; all are very good. Thanks for sharing!
  10. I'm looking forward to seeing your shots!
  11. The sky's too bright in this one. I'll look at trying to change this in Photoshop later, or re-visit the site on an overcast, drizzly day.
  12. I took long drives through farm country in SW Ontario over the past couple of weekends. I was looking for decrepit or abandoned buildings and landscapes. I like black and white as a medium.
  13. Hi all, Anyone else into Photography? I caught the bug in 2014. I'm on a steep learning curve and take the camera with me everywhere I go - to work, random drives deep into farm country, wherever. My equipment is a Canon 70D with an image-stablized (IS) 18-55mm lens and a 55-250mm IS lens. I have a heavy duty tripod and monopod. I use Photoshop for cropping and minor touch ups, and Canon's utilities to compensate for the lens' characteristics. I plan on slowly acquiring various accessories as I grow into the hobby, much as I did for the astronomy hobby. I also have an adapter to connect my camera to my large refractor telescope, which is essentially an 820mm f8 lens. My other "camera" is my LG G3 smartphone with a 13 mp sensor. I'd like to hear about your gear, see your shots and discuss tips, tricks, and knowledge. My camera attached to the refractor via a T-ring adapter.
  14. I have Sophos UTM (unified Threat Management) server as my router/firewall. It's pretty effective for blocking malware scripts from websites, infected files, infected email etc. They also have a free virus removal tool that's worth running as well. http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools.aspx
  15. Absolutely amazing! Think about it: We shot a missile over 600 million miles to precisely intercept the orbit of a tiny piece of dust, after sling-shotting it with gravitational assists from 2 other planets (having precisely calculated their masses - think on how difficult this is). This should have been a live-broadcast on all TV channels! The precision calculations involved here, and the pure validation of what we have discovered about gravity, of motion, of physics, is a major, MAJOR, achievement. Not to mention that we - humankind - LANDED ON A COMET! Folks, this is rocket -science!
