Sniper rifles don't behave the same way as the base Call of Duty 4. In our mod, you have to hold your breathe longer to steady your scope. I always assumed this was the case to program in the defrost capability.  A Steady Cam attachment can help, but the Steady Cam makes your shots weaker and it is harder to hit moving targets. You still have to hold your breath with a Steady Cam but with certain rifles, it sounds like people shoot it like a semi-auto assault rifle.

Instead of Pros and Cons, I will give my opinion of the weapon from what I have observed and how I use it. Sniper rifles snipe.

Preface:

When using a Steady Cam, I recommend using Armor Piercing to counter the reduced damage.

I will explain my understanding of the Hunter Killer Perk. I am still investigating this. Hunter Killer allows you to hold your breath longer when searching for targets. It also advertises thermal capability. I need to look at the multiplayer settings and test this.

I have not noticed any damage fall off when using Silencers.

To help with defrosting, use one of the crossbows which have no sway to help you defrost. The non-explosive crossbow is almost like it's own sniper rifle and it is silent. I need to confirm if it causes a red dot in overtime.

If you hold your breath to defrost someone and you run out of breath, don't move your mouse. You will finish the defrost from where your crosshairs were.

I love Hunter Killer but unfortunately it is the same perk slot as Stealth which doesn't help for staying hidden. In an older mod years ago, this wasn't the case.

M40A3:

Bolt Action Rifle. Run and gun at your own risk. Better to at long range.

Something is off with aiming down sight which makes things like quick scoping hard. It doesn't seem like you are aiming where you'd expect.

Good power. Steady Cam works well with this. Using a Silencer with Hunter Killer is satisfying at long range.

My preferred use of this rifle is big open maps with some cover where I can use a Silencer and Hunter Killer without dying to things like Predator Missiles.

M21:

Semi-Auto Rifle. Arguable the best sniper rifle for follow up shots. Takes less time to steady the scope.

Good for spamming long range. Fast reload.

Armor Piercing is your friend when using Steady Cam.

My preferred use of this rifle is mid to large maps where you can hide well. With a Silencer, you can still shoot fairly quickly. I would use Stealth.

WA2000:

My favorite Sniper Rifle in this mod.

Use the Steady Aim perk and a Silencer and this thing can be a discount silenced shotgun with long range capability. Fast reload too.

I love the sound of this thing. It does take a long time to steady the shot though without a Steady Cam.

I see plenty of people using Steady Cams with this. Good for spamming long range too. Armor Piercing helps with any attachment.

My preferred use of this rifle is as I mentioned above. Funny Silenced Shotgun that can still get a kill long range. You can really light someone up at close range with its great rate of fire. I use Stealth to run and gun, or even Hunter Killer at the risk of claymores and bouncing betties.

L118A:

Bolt Action Rifle.

Better than the M40A3 in my opinion, especially since it takes less time to steady your shot. Great with a silencer and Hunter Killer is not necessary.

Steady Cam is great here but same advice with Armor Piercing. Unsilenced bolt actions give your position away, so that is the risk. Not as easy to defend yourself.

My preferred use of this rifle is mid to large maps. This is not so bad for running and gunning if you pair it with the .44 Mag or Desert Eagle. Grassy Maps with ghillie suits are great to use this with a Silencer and Stealth. It's hard to hear one silenced bold action shot at a time.

Barrett .50cal:

Semi-Auto Machine but takes forever to reload.

Also a beast for hip firing with Steady Aim. Close second as a favorite since no Silencer.

One great upside is a Steady Cam is not necessary in my opinion. Pretty solid without attachments.

My preferred use of this rifle is any map. Also good at running and gunning with Steady Aim but you let everyone know where you are lol. Great all around rifle stock for sniping.
