my moms family history.Ternes
Her family originated in france as far back as can be traced...moved to germany .In germany they were told of great lands availible in Romania and the turks were selling it.Ten families moved to romania and founded an area called kara murat. They worked the land hard .The king , Ferdinand 1st actualy remnamed the land Ferdinand the 1st after himself because it was so prosperous. They spoke mainly german which was there downfall..They became wealthy in that they owned many livestock and more then one farm each and they flourished. My late aunt was actualy given an award by the king for a poem she wrote.rip tante lena ...
The 2nd world war was around the corner and germany was building up money to fight ..They came to my relatives and told them that because they were on thre border with russia and they spoke german they would all be slaughtered or sent to camps. They told them if the gave up there property they woud take them back and give them back property and protection in germany. They trusted these officials and took with them what they could carry leaving all behind. They were transported to czekoslavakia and put in a camp ..The men were furious and were very vocal ...as a result many were put in work camps...if they came back they looked like skeletons..My grandfather was taken away 3 times after voicing his opinions ..I thinks that was all he could take...shortly after the war ended. My mother and family had nothing in czech and had to walk back to Romania to find out they had nothing there as well. There lands had been taken by the german war machine and sold for profits .They walked back to find nothing. They had absolutly nothing at that point and had to beg for food to survive and hide there teenage young girls from the soldiers for fear of them being raped....When I was 12 our family did the european family vacation and we went all over europe visiting mant people they hadnt seen since they were children .It was a life changing trip. The storied my parents told while we drove along..We visited people that took them in and helped therm during the war.I thinks the trip brought them some closure somehow..... after many years kara murat has been renamed Mihail Kogălniceanu, Constanţa
