I would suggest that each person pick one class to specialize in primarily, plus one or two more to be proficient in. I would also recommend that each player pick a couple of vehicles to specialize in.
 
You have to spend certs to upgrade and they don't come quickly...so if you try to spread them out all over you will never get ahead. Meanwhile, if you just pick one area to pour everything in you may not be very helpful in certain situations.
 
I for one am pouring my certs into Light Assault primarily, with Heavy Assault and Engineer as back ups. For vehicles I am going very heavy with the Sunderer (for mobile spawning) and some towards a lightning tank with skyguard (for AA).
 
It would be nice if we had some people who were proficient at flying aircraft (particularly the galaxy for dropping in infantry).
As for the best class for your average player...Heavy assault.

If there are enough people I will make one, but if not it would be better for us just to join another so we can have access to their squads/platoons.
 
After playing with the vindicators over the last couple of weeks (because no one else would play with me), I've discovered how advantageous it is to have coordination with 20 or more players at a time. People in outfits actually follow orders and work together while most people that just join a random squad pay no attention to the objectives whatsoever, making it difficult to capture/defend points.
 
Having 6 people on a point allows you to capture it up to 3 times faster. Plus you need at least one person to man the sunderer or pilot the galaxy and at least one infiltrator to scout, cover, and hack terminals. It is also very helpful to have at least one person manning a skyguard and a nice plus to have one person in a scythe to help scout and give air support. This means you need 10 people working together to form an ideal squad.
 
Roughly half of the people that join a public squad will coordinate with each other (and this is from my experience in beta; i suspect that will drop with the official release). Therefore, you really need at least 20 (maybe 30) people together in a public platoon to get the same effect as having a 10 man squad within an outfit. Throw in the fact that you can have 4 squads working together, and you've got yourself a very efficient setup. Having played extensively from both sides I can assure you that it is much more effective and way more fun working with large groups collectively.

Hmmm for me a little lack of inspiration, plus played minecraft so much I getting a little bored with it, plus the emergence of planetside 2 beta has kept me away.
 
Maybe if we do that server swipe, start over with some cool cooperative projects I might get back into it some. I do think it would be cool to go back to 1 world, mostly stock gameplay (not really digging all the spells tbh), and cooperate building a handful of themed cities would be fun.
 
I have been wanting to work on a futuristic city for a while. An ancient jungle ruins city would be cool too. Maybe even some kind of frozen mountain castle village or something would be cool.

Official server Rules:
 
1. Malicious griefing will not be tolerated on the Minecraft server. Griefing will result in removal from the server whitelist and/or permanent ban from the Minecraft server.
2. No racism
3. No personal attacks
4. No hacking
 
Griefing includes:
-stealing items that are not yours (borrowing is one thing but stealing is another)
this includes taking from chests that are not yours (unless they are labeled “free stuff” or something)
this also includes taking blocks or items that have been clearly placed somewhere by another player
-intentionally destroying or altering creations that are not yours (with fire, tnt, lava, or block by block)
 
Not Rules but Etiquette:
1. Obviously there will be times when accidental damage may occur (ie from creepers). If you cannot repair it in the server, it would be highly encouraged that you make note of the damage in the server with a sign, send mail to the person whose stuff was damaged, or make a post here in the forums.
Mail can be sent with the following command in server:
/mail [send] [player name] [message]
 
2. Please don’t “scar” the landscape. This one typically refers to cutting down parts of trees or not re-planting them in forests when no building is being done in the area. If you intend to build something in an area, then by all means chop them down or burn them or whatever. But please leave forests or re-plant them if you harvest but have no intention of building anything there. Also, avoid leaving random dirt huts, dirt bridges and other temporary structures. We all do this from time to time, especially when we are starting out with nothing, but at least try to clean up before you leave an area. We will reserve the right to remove unsightly structures like this if they seem abandoned...and really ugly. Especially dirt bridges in skylands…build nice bridges.
 
3. Killing or stealing other people’s animals for food is not appropriate, even if you re-breed them. If animals are fenced in please leave them alone. If they are in the open, they are fair game. There are plenty of places to buy food cheaply if you are away from home and hungry. This is one of the main reasons we have the chest shop available to all players.
 
4. X-ray texture packs are not encouraged and if abused can result in removal from the server. Although there are certain instances where their use is acceptable (example would be underground tunneling near someone else’s structure), everyday use for mining and especially finding secret passages in other’s creations is certainly not acceptable. Normal texture packs are encouraged.

Hey guys and gals, Just a heads up!
 
We CAN NOT forbid private game servers for any games like what you can do with Minecraft so easyly. We actually promote it as some of our admins are using that for test reasons. BUT!
 
Keep in mind that >XI< is paying alot for our >XI< Minecraft 24 slots server by our donations by faithful great and awesome people every month. So please promote our real >XI< server on yours and hop in once every, what ever and when ever, to join and say Hi and keep the feedbacks going and have a dedicated home there.
 
It is still all about the donations, traffic and such.

Sigh, I sense a little tension between you guys, and I hope you can resolve this type of stuff without me getting too involved. Because I don't particularly care to ban people from the server unless it is genuine maliciousness or complete disregard for others' property. I don't get the feeling that bigjon has intended on either of these, but I can never know for sure. We have allowed certain griefing to go on in certain cases because of a back and forth jabbing between players. Outright stealing is absolutely not acceptable, but I don't think cutting down trees falls into that category. Making holes in walls is not acceptable and he does need to fix it but please allow some time for him to do so. I intend to ammend the server rules and have a server guide worked up soon to aleviate some of these issues.
