My only real preface here is that we play on a hardcore server and you have a really good chance of hitting anything that moves before reloading lol. Since you can shoot anything down, the Gambler perk can make your bullets even stronger.

M249 SAW:

Pros: Good at hip firing especially with Double Tap and Grip. Use a Red Dot Sight if you don't like the iron sights.

Cons: Recoil. Reload speed.

Preferred use: I prefer Grip since I don't mind the iron sights. Armor Piercing to shoot at range or Double Tap paired with Dead Silence and Stealth for hip fire running and gunning. Sleight of Hand helps for reloading. Since you have so much ammo, you could use Sonic Boom with Claymore or Bouncing Betties for max lethal radius to watch your back.

RPD:

This thing sounds like a train and hits like one.

Pros: Best long range LMG available. Good Iron Sights.

Cons: reload speed.

Preferred use: dadda2 sponsored me to join XI way back when and he used this with Double Tap in Server 1. I add a Grip to that. Very effective at running and gunning or long range.

Steyr AUG HBAR:

Pros: Reload speed by far. Acts like an Assault rifle with more ammo.

Cons: Okay but not great at long range. Dull iron sights but manageable.

Preferred use: Grip makes the recoil manageable. Double Tap or Armor Piercing.

Sharing this from my Shotgun guide because it also applies to LMGs.

Back to @Deckard. Years ago when I first started playing this mod, I didn't know what I did, but after selecting the Grip attachment, I was still able to use the default RPGs. At one point, that went away and I actually thought it got patched. Years went by. After spectating Deckard in this year, I noticed he had a Grip on his shotgun but also had three EMP grenades. He explained to me how you can have a Grip AND an Inventory item. To do this, pick a shotgun, set up your class, select the Grip, and save your class. At the beginning of each round, open your shotgun class and select the shotgun you want again (even if it is the one you have saved). You will notice your Inventory icon is now red. You will see the Grip icon is still there but now you can pick your preferred Inventory item and save the class. If you use this class the whole round, you will have your Inventory item each life. Like I said, you have to do this at the beginning of the round or if you switch to another gun and back to shotguns. The bug I mentioned earlier affects your Perk 1 when you do this. Sometimes your Perk 1 will revert back to Stopping Power, so you have to pay attention to that (Stopping Power sucks). This can become a headache, so you can also go without an Inventory item, like I did for years and your Perk 1 should be fine.
