Interesting statistics - what surprises me are two countries known for alcohol, Germany and Australia, don't even make the top 20 list

Actually it looks like Eastern Europe takes the prize as the biggest consumers of alcohol in the world

(Andorra and Moldova look like "party" countries as all 5 people must regularly get drunk (actually there are around 85,000 residents in Andorra)

The numbers are "liters per person per year" by the way

20. Netherlands 13.25

19. Slovakia 13.33

18. Denmark 13.37

17. UK 13.37

16. France 13.66

15. Ireland 14.41

14. Portugal 14.55

13. South Korea 14.8

12. Lithuania 15.03

11. Croatia 15.11

10. Belarus 15.13

9. Slovenia 15.19

8. Romania 15.3

7. Andorra 15.48

6. Estonia 15.57

5. Ukraine 15.6

4. Russia 15.76

3. Hungary 16.27

2. Czech Republic 16.45

1. Moldova 18.22

Interesting countries by comparison

24. Germany 12.81

45. Australia 10.02

57. USA 9.44

49. Canada 9.77

And in last place (no surprise its a Muslim country as alcohol is not normally allowed in that religion)

188. Yemen 0.02

I wonder if being a depressed country has anything to do with it. Also population maybe a big factor.

Cool stats though. Thanks for bringing that to our attention. Now drink more beer.

Damn I wish I was going to the XI fest this summer. I make some kick ass beer. It's really easy to do. A lot cheaper than buying it. I think it cost me about $4 and change per gallon for some really great beer. Not Bud light or any weak beers like that. I used the kit in a can. And then you add malt sugar and yeast. And you can get a lot of different flavors.

It takes about $75 to get started, but after that it is a piece of cake. You could even make some marijuana beer, that would be some kick ass beer. The bottles cost you quite a bit to get started initially.

You beer drinkers should give it a try.

I wish I could go to the XI fest. The worst thing is, for me, it is only around a 3 hour drive, so I have no excuse, except not being able to get time off work to go. Perhaps I can stop by and at least say hi to everyone that weekend. I really have to find a way to be on the west side of MI that weekend and scoot down to IN.

I used to brew my own beer back in England in the late 70s, early 80s but I was never very succesful at it. It always came out tasting like crap!!!

Maybe it is easier now. Perhaps I should try again.

Another thing to realize - the litres are measured as pure ethyl alcohol. The alcohol content of a drink is its "proof" divided by 2. So if you want to drink 1 litre of alcohol in the form of, say, Budweiser (gag) you would have to drink 40 litres of it.
