  8. wow Jon! very nice, that's some heavy duty welds there!
  9. i went to a welding tech school for a couple years and was wanting to become a welder before i fell into plumbing, never got to start learning tig or mig back then, it was all oxy and stick. the first thing i bought was a victor oxy acetylene kit and tanks, and did all my welding that way for years til i got a miller mig. but id have to say tig is very much like oxy welding but with out all that heat and much more control. love it!
  10. yep, picked up one last year, they are a must have for sure. always hated doing the 'hold it there....flip helmet down...doh missed the weld!!!!
  11. Yep, the stick and mig welding can really hurt sometimes! Another reason i like the tig, no big sparks jumping down your shirt, shoes and pants!
  12. Very nice!
  13. my god! the whole neighborhoods lights must dim when you use that. lol so from what i see there are a bunch of plug ins, are those for more or less amps?
  14. great battling with you, welcome to the >XI< forums!!
  15. yep, i see a plasma cutter in my future also. got to try one out the other week and im sold, gots to have!
  16. The welder was from Longevity. http://www.longevity-inc.com/ Its a 200amp ac/dc inverter based welder, its also a stick welder too. It does come with a foot pedal. Got the welder for $865 shipped. The welds im doing on mild steel are beautiful!!! Some of those welds on my table there was 1/4in, handled it easily. the smaller welds where easy. I did alot welding on my race car (many years ago)with a miller mig welder and this tig can do all that and more, it just take a bit longer to do.wish i had it for some aluminum i wanted to weld and was unsuccessful with the mig, but I've tried some aluminum welds the other day and did just ok, had one or two good looking welds, but practice makes perfect and im sure ill get there. And stainless steel was as easy as the mild steel.
  17. been wanting to get a tig welder for a long time now, but they always been very pricey. always wanted to be able to weld all metals, stainless, aluminum, ect. and also make very small welds that my oxy acetylene, mig welder couldn't.and since where i live now i dont have the use of a 220v, it needed to be 110v, so i finally got one from longevity, sure it made in china, but the price was great, and it had great reviews, and a friend of mine who welds for a living got one and said it was a good welder for what i needed. welded 1/4 steel with no problem, and the small welds i did where great! was able to make my 1st aluminum welds...some where ok, need to work on that. so my 1st project was a welding table and since i now have a tiny garage, i made it a folding table and here's a "Gear Lamp" I made, almost done, just need to be cleaned up a bit, paint or powder coat not sure what yet, and a printed canvas weaved between the rods to finish off the shade here's them tiny welds i was wanting to be able to make and a extra deep 7/16 socket for me when im installing some faucets at work so far im very happy with this welder. got a bunch more projects and cant wait to get to them! even got a >XI< lamp i started a while ago, ill be able to finish it up now with the new welder!
