Well its been a long journey, and its back to normal again. I think steam backed up some old maps that made a conflict with loading or something. Thank you for your patients. Ya know I've been a XI member for 15 years. Ever since COD 2 was released in 2005. I don't think I could have solved this on my own. Its still fussy with errors from time to time when switching maps but no big deal. Its expected. Now on to downloading 300 maps, but with an m.2 drive its really fast. Again thank you Merlin and Buckkilla.

One more thing. Would you delete contents in usermaps or just delete usermaps folder completely?

No not yet, but it sure sounds like your on the right track. Its like it wants to launch, but can't. I'll let you know.

I'm using Windows Defender only. Also checked firewall apps to allow access to All my COD games no issue I see there. But come to think about it I never had any issues when using my old IPS free Charter security. Hmm. So what do you think is best, uninstall Punkbuster or delete folder. my specs are : Windows 10 64fbit intel 9900k Asus heroXI mb RTX 2080ti hydro 1tb m.2 32gb corsair ram

Would this be punkbuster issue. Maybe update or uninstall?

Well I gave up on the Steam version and went back to CD version. Did all the patches, It wanted a new Profile name, did that. Extracted all the maps into { usemaps } and the exact same behavior. No difference. Will not connect to the next map. You know how you see 3 sets of green bars zip across the next map. Well it gets to the third and it get to about 10% and freezes. Or no green bars at all. I'm stumped. Actually after my new build it played excellent. Then out of nowhere its starts doing this. Its like really trying to reach the usermaps file but can't. So lets uninstall the CD version and reinstall Steam version to see what happen now. The exact same damn thing. All custom maps have been extracted into the usermaps file. Now what. I'm thinking its a console command that's out of wack. All my other Steam game work fine.

I check my file and it dose show {ace, cod5knifexi, cod5test, xi_wawmw_ctf, and xidmace. in mods folder.

The one thing that is missing is the mod selection in multiplayer options is {blank}. No Acemod or anything. Also check firewall option. Its set to allow WaW. and all other games I play to allow. Now on Windows game options, tried game mode on and off, no difference, running razer software which runs in the back ground, always connect to their server. turned that off. No difference.

Yes their is an option to allow downloading while gaming, but its geared more to downloading updates for other steam games during a gaming session or installing another game while you are playing something else. As far as I make of it. Now it was set to: Follow my global setting { stop background downloads}. never messed with it, never had an issue with it. I will switch it to { Always allow background downloads} maybe this will make a difference. rebooted my router today also.

Yes but I don't think that's the problem. I think its a disconnect from the server issue. Got any Ideas? Ya know its not uncommon for me to get disconnects from this server from time to time, errors no big deal. but nothing on level. played for years, now this, every map switch freezes. Its not like I live in New Guinea, I'm in Los Angeles on a good 120.39 download Mbps 14.00 upload. Maybe reset router. Not using wifi.

Yes but how to access it was not that simple for me. Without having to type in %appdata% in run, I would have never been able to find it. So will see how it goes. However not being to just download maps as you play is weird, at least I can't.

After doing this look up in the address bar and you will see AppData. now were on the right track for finding this elusive { usermaps} .

I have a solution what you need to do is go to run (hold down your windows home button and press r) type %appdata%. then up in the link you will see appdata, click it then go to local and there you go you now have the activison folder. Here is the link, C:\Users\monro_000\AppData\Local\activision\codwaw\mods

Hi Buckkillr8 Just created a usermapps folder, extracted all maps into that folder and just as I was finished got your post. I will cross my fingers and see what happens. Ya know its just so weird that you just can't download the maps as you play. At least I can't. Its like your locked out to anyone who doesn't have all the maps. Thanks for the help and good hunting.

Well, thanks Buckkillr8, for the help. but a usermaps folder is just plain not there. Are you using a steam version? I think I will uninstall and reinstall the game again and take another wack at it. While in game it tries to download the next map but freezes me out. Its like its almost ready, but won't launch. Will anybody who tries to play acemod for the first time get the same problem? I've been playing this game ever since it came out. That's about 15 years. Started with using a disc. Then re-bought it from steam, they auto update the patches and stuff. No brainer. No issues till now. All this crap happen after a rebuild and I didn't back up my game files. Hadn't given any thought that our downloader was abandoned.

I had the Disc to this game gathering dust for years. I tossed it with a bunch of other games on disc. Just used Steam. Auto updates and it a no brainer and cheap. Never had an issue for years till the recent rebuild . I just ordered WaW on amazon just for the hell of it. Maybe this will resolve the problem. Makes no sense. Also you can verify all files for the game is intact. No errors.

Now each folder you see has maps in them but do you have to extract each folder to get maps to work? Cause this is where I get stumped. I don't see an option to do that on 7zip or am I missing something?

Well if there was a usermap folder to extact to I would do that. So I just experimented.

I cannot even download a map from the game to see where the hell it is. It just plain won't let me. The last thing I see is { http;//redirect.xtremeidiots.net/redirect/cod5/mods/ace/mod.ff } is the part it just plain freezes. when switching maps. I can enter a game though.

New to this so bear with me here. This is what I see now. But now maps are now in each folder is this right. Or should I create a usermap folder and extract there? What steps do I take to now extract each folder Using 7zip?
