May 1, 2010 I was living in Seattle, WA . My mother called me and told me there home was flooding in the middle of the night...I told her to get her dogs and get to a hotel on higher ground...1 week later I was finally able to fly to Nashville and navigate my way to her home....I was shocked and appalled by the conditions of her home....the water mark was 5 foot 6 inches in her living room. Everything on the first floor was ruined due to the flood waters overflowing into the sewer treatment plants....
While working on throwing away her life savings of furniture, pictures, silverware and belongings I was pleasantly surprised by all the volunteers who came to help...I remember 10 year old children bringing me sandwiches they had made so people could take a short break and eat and get back to cleaning up...I remember Pizza Hut coming down the war torn streets with pizza's giving them away to all the volunteers...I remember churches after churches showing up...asking what could they do to help...no job was to dirty for them...
This is when I knew I would move to Tennessee...I met my wife...married and it has changed my life. I am probable the only person that has had a positive outcome from this massive tragity...oh...and my wife...
Ill try and find some pictures of my mothers home...by the way her name is Mildred...if you watch the video...
