Reading a snakes 'feelings' are up to interpretation. Usually a change in their behavior is an indicator that something is not right. This can range from the snake showing the general signs of aggression/defense (upright, shaking tail, unease when you come closer) but this is only really noticeable if it is out of the ordinary for your snake. An example i have is whenever i need to clean out the tank for my boa, she gets really anxious/upset at me because i suspect she doesn't like her 'furniture' being messed with. She shows this by backing away from me when i put my hand in, or hissing more than usual
