Happy birthday to all! Woah, the big six oh @Belted! Hope y'all had a nice day

And if we want to be technical and compare real life calibers, let's look at the only other stock automatic rifle in the game, the STG. It shoots a 7.92×33mm Kurz, a considerably more powerful round than the .30 carbine. Yet in game the M1 is stronger than the STG. This is even at base semi-auto mode. I have to assume this is due to balancing; STG was always fully auto, M1A1 semi. So I guess real life comparisons don't work well.
-
I am no expert on weapons by any means, but here are some considerations I quickly found online: M1A1 was only semi-automatic. The later M2 variant was select fire, and from what I see its rate of fire was 750-800. With this in mind, the OW version of the M1 is pretty much an M2 carbine. If 750-800 is the RoF that the OW mod sets it at, it is probably historically accurate in this context. I would like confirmation on what the M1 in xiow servers is set at for RPM. According to the WaW wiki, the M1A1 does 40-30 damage in MP. Here are some other guns in context. These numbers are from the wiki. STG44: 30-20 at 535rpm PPSH41: 22-14 at 1250rpm MP40: 40-29 at 535rpm Thompson 40-20 at 735rpm Type 100 40-20 at 750rpm MG42: 30 at 937rpm Browning: M1919 40 at 625rpm FG42: 30-22 at 937rpm Type99: 45-33 at 625rpm DP28 45-35 at 469rpm BAR 45-35 at 375rpm Interpret these numbers as you'd like. What I see is the M1 is a weapon with the mobility between an SMG and LMG, but the damage and range of an LMG that shoots like an SMG. (To be fair the STG is pretty similar, yet weaker) I don't know if these numbers help or hurt my argument but for some reason the gun does get used a lot. Personally, I think the MP40 silenced and the gewehr silenced are the best guns in the game, so I guess I should be fine with people liking the M1 more! I even like the STG over the M1 I think. One final consideration: We are talking about weapons in a hardcore server; most guns kill in one bullet anyway. So this is all probably a moot point. Interesting nonetheless. It definitely shows that the M1 could probably kill faster than any other full auto gun if player health was not set to half or whatever it is.

Thanks for the info @KaptCrunch. However, sounds like I would be annoyed at having it bound.... picking up guns as you walk over them sounds like cruel and unusual punishment lol. I was imagining something more like the button is "pressed down" so that it works for point and thaw, but you still have to press it to pick up a gun. BTW, still haven't looked at your internet solution. But also still skeptical cause the copper line supplying me is literally at its physical limits for bandwidth

My mouth literally started watering looking at that picture of everything in the pot... So how'd it turn out?!

It is handy sometimes to get a gun off the ground, but yes it is super annoying when thawing. I think most people would agree with that. Distance thawing helps but the most unavoidable situation is when you are trying to proximity thaw and distance thaw at the same time. Only solution to this I can see is if it's possible to separate the "use" key and the thaw function. That would be a huge and probably very polarizing mechanics change though that would take a lot of getting used to.

Woah, big birthday day! Cheers everyone!

Curious to see what others think about this gun. Not sure how easy changes can be made, or if this is a hot button issue, yada yada yada. Console chat in game says "we are always trying new things", so I figured may as well bring it up. I have some other comments/ideas for other guns as well if anyone's interested.

Good decision; there's never a cheaper time to run cables than during construction, and it's so worth it! I did some runs that I might never use but I had the cable and it was easy with the studs exposed so thought why not. -

Thankfully ping is king when it comes to FPS games; if it was download speed I'd be screwed! -
I have an Acer Predator xb271hu that I've had for a bit over 2 years and I love it. Got it on a great black Friday deal but it's a little bit cheaper now even so. IMO 27" is the perfect size. I've never tried a curved but I really don't think it's for me. Who knows, to each their own. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Fiber is a mile away from me now, but it's a different ISP and they have a "handshake" agreement not to come into my ISP's territory.. -

There is a seemingly very viable OTA provider that a lot of my neighbors have. Seems like they are happy with it. Initially I was under the assumption that I would get fiber here in 2022, but then my isp published their road map for the year and it looks like my area's not going to be reached this year. Now that I know it's going to be at least a year without fiber, probably more, I will probably look into this OTA provider. End goal is definitely something fiber based, so I don't want to lock in too much time and money on a different solution. I know fiber will be here some day; it's all about how much patience I have! -

Provider is just some rural telephone company. They've branched out into fiber but unfortunately my area looks to be the last in their service area to get fiber. Right now the dsl is 5/1 mbit and that's the highest speed wired connection available. -

Crunch, I agree, its a terrible connection. I am connected by ethernet to a router that is supplied from a DSL modem. This is the fastest speed available to me right now (5 down, 1 up). Ironically, they call this "High Speed Business" and I think it's $50/month. No other ISPs around here except for over the air, which I might look into but not excited about the higher pings that come with them. -

Eh, cat6 will be fine for me for me as long as I live here. It's probably overkill over cat5e honestly. My ISP will likely never touch the theoretical bandwidths of 10gig, and if I ever decide to configure any sort of home server I'll be fine there too. The cables perform flawlessly on my 5mbit connection though -
Last year I ran a bunch of Cat6 at my place (almost 800 feet) in anticipation for a fiber upgrade. While it unfortunately looks like my provider isn't going to get their fiber line to me until 2023, I began putting ends on the runs I've made. Here's the difference going from wireless to wired. I can't believe in 2022 that internet speeds like this still exist in America. Granted, I am outside of town, but still on a paved road. Now you all can see why it takes me forever to download a map I don't have!!

I could live off soup alone; creamy potato is right up there at the top! Great job
