Mouse balls are now available as FRU (FieldReplacement Unit) therefore, if a mouse failsto operate or should it perform erratically, itmay need a ball replacement. Because of thedelicate nature of this procedure, replacementof mouse balls should only be attempted byproperly trained personnel. Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examiningthe underside of the mouse. Domestic ballswill be larger and harder than foreign balls.
Ball removal procedures differ depending uponthe manufacturer of the mouse. Foreign ballscan be replaced using the pop off method.Domestic balls are replaced by using thetwist-off method.
Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result insudden discharge.
Upon completion of ball replacement, the mousemay be used immediately. It is recommended thateach replacer have a pair of spare balls formaintaining optimum customer satisfaction. Anycustomer missing his balls should suspect localpersonnel of removing these necessary items.
