In the electronics industry, when a new product is developed, it has to be so advanced that it will be cutting edge technology 2 years after it's developed. It takes that long to be put into production and be sold. In some instances, there is already a "New and Improved" version sitting on the shelf, before the original is even let out to the public.

That said, I have an i7-950 overclocked to 4.2GHz, on an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard and 12GB of RAM that I built around the same time as you that's still kicking serious ass today. I've added hard drives; had one fail, too. I've moved my GPU from a 285 to a 560Ti to a 660Ti. Other than that, though, I still love this thing! I fly X-Plane at some pretty extreme settings on it and it looks amazing. Awards
