Getting a new video card and loading W7.  So this means clean house time!  I want to make sure I save everything needed before the swipe.  I don't want to lose my freeze tag stuff.  Can anyone tell me what file(s) to save?

Thanks!

COD5:  C:\Users\<your windows login name here>\AppData\Local\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles\<your COD player name here>

COD4:  C:\Users\<your windows login name here>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\<your COD player name here>

You could either just copy your specific user stuff by backing up the path right out to the end, OR (recommended) just copy the entire Activision folder (through the yellow path above) to make sure you get any global game settings.

I would:

  1. Backup the Activision folder and all subfolders (yellow path above.)
  2. Do your upgrades and fresh Windows install
  3. Install the COD games
  4. Backup the default Activision data folders by renaming them to "Activision Save"
  5. Restore the Activision folders backed up in step 1.
  6. Get in the game and verify that all is normal and as it was before.
  7. IF NOT:  selectively restore files from the "Activision Save" folder to see if I could correct the problem.
  8. WORST CASE: Restore the "Activision Save" folder and then just restore the specific player profile folder (yellow+white path above.)

I would expect you're done and all is well at step 6.

Upgrade is done, computer running like a champ.  Now to get in here and see how well shooting does. ;)

I loaded the game, but I see it needs a crap load of patches to play.  Anywhere you suggest to get them?

I think the patches are available on our download page, aren't they?  Let me look.  [wanders off briefly...]

Um.  Nope.   Damn.

I think I just Googled them up last time I did it.  They're scattered as I recall.  We really ought to host copies of them.  Admins?  What say you?  I know I still have them here if you need them uploaded...
