Exe BurningBright I tried for 2 days to get into the Chicago server. I finally get in and play bit and then I'm redirected. I'm so frustrated that I think I'll just not try anymore until it's fixed. But it's the same mod you know, just the server location which is different. You want absolutly the Chicago one cause the ping? It's not so much the server (although ping to Chicago is a wee bit better), it the fact that she will be playing for 30 min, server is at 18 peeps.. and then all of a sudden she gets redirected to New York. I know for a fact that this happened to a couple of members too. It's frustrating enough to get kicked from a full server, as a non member.. but understandable. Apparently a non member (and sometimes members) are getting kicked when server gets above 18 in it.

Yep, there are plenty of issues with the redirect acting weird. Several threads too. Below are a few (one is in admin section, so you can't see it unless you have the right permissions). Hope it gets squared away soon!!! http://www.xtremeidiots.com/fora_topic.asp?tid=24903 http://www.xtremeidiots.com/fora_topic.asp?tid=24881

Good to hear Wildthing!!!! Congrats man!!! Hard to come by in this economy.

Thanks for your help Cavey, and everyone else too. We will spend some time implementing your suggestions and see how it works out. We actually were able to play a bit together last night on MW2FT2.. and it wasn't so bad. We will keep working at it until we resolve it. Of course, we understand your commitments Cavey. I appreciate your time thus far. Good luck with the website!!!

BUDMAN Is this an onboard card that she is using and you had no problems b4 your new PC ?...may be dumb question.................. Yep, onboard network, don't know the specs.. she's using a laptop. My PC is about a year old, maybe more. Been fine until a couple weeks back.

LaRSin Bama ..BB.. So lets get this right BB can't connect when she is the only one connected to the router ? Wi-Fi or wired ? No, she CAN connect. She is connected by ethernet cable (RJ-45) to the router. We disconnect all other connections, and then bypassed the router all together and connected her straight to the modem. No change. She just has a jacked up ping. Her ping is about twice mine, and sometimes higher. Her graphics are all jerky in-game.. it's basically unplayable. We did all the stuff I said in my last post, but it doesn't help. I changed a bunch of her graphics settings to bare bones.. and it helped very little.. still basically unplayable. She had fine gameplay and about the same ping as me until a couple weeks ago, we do not know the cause of the problem. Tonight, I replaced the ethernet cable from her computer to the router (duh.. don't know why I didn't think of that before) and it didn't help. She swapped to wireless, and although the ping was a bit lower and more stable, she still had laggy gameplay. What I mean by that is, as she moves around.. things are jittery, which makes it very difficult to enter doors or do anything that requires precision. It makes gameplay suck, in other words. I got her to test movement without the mouse, just A,S,D,W. (to try and eliminate the mouse as an issue) but it was still jittery. Still working on some more ideas, with settings and what not. Will keep this updated. Suggestions are welcome. Cavey Sorry I meant to connect to you the other day when Bama asked but I was caught just before bedtime here in the UK. I'll see if I can later in the week. Though I'm interested on what is the dhcp server? Is it you router or is that a shop relay from the dsl which is instead the dhcp server. Are you running shop or fixed ip? If you can provide a little more on the network topology, I can better understand the setup. It might be worth setting your machines to use fixed IPs. Is the reason for the router (or is it really acting as a switch) to allow you to pass data to each machine? I only ask cause you mentioned you were in the same workgroup. If not change one of the machine's work groups to sometime different to see if that could be causing an issue. I'm wondering a couple of things... Could Bama's machine be somehow acting as a dhcp relay! Could there be some form of backup routine occurring between the two machine, copy files and folders across while you are gaming? Just spit balling some ideas. As I said I will try and help later in the week based on you being available when I am in the UK. Well, we don't really share files all that often. There are a few 'share' folders that are accessible from my computer to hers, but we rarely put anything in them. I've actually wanted to have a real home network with the ability to access devices and other computers on the network, but I am apparently an idiot where that is concerned because I've never been successful at it. If my printer wasn't wireless enabled and on the network, I doubt we would be able to share it. I am familiar with all the vocabulary words that you used in your post, such as dhcp, fixed IPs, network topology, and the like.. but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to use any of them in a rational sentence that offered any real meaning. I'm pretty sure that SOMETHING on my network is controlling the issuance of IP's. I see on my router web page that the 'Internet Connection' is set for 'AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION - DHCP'. According to ATT's website, my DSL service provides '1 dynamic IP', which changes each time I log in. I suppose my router then assignes IP's to all the devices connected to it, both wireless and wired. I know I had to do some kind of mac address clone thingy when I originally connected my router to my DSL modem (my network was NOT provided by ATT, I connected my own router to the modem they provided). I have had zero problems for 4 years with this set up. I've had to replace modems and routers, but it's been a good set up until now. That is what makes me think it's a problem with the wife's computer. Particularly since I can bypass all the other stuff and connect her directly to the modem, and she still has the issue. When we first noticed the issue, we dug around for ideas to the problem.. and I noticed we actually WERE on different workgroups.. so we changed them to be the same. There was no improvement. The issue exists regardless of what workgroup name is assigned to our computers (same or different). I know I've done a lot of 'shotgun' troubleshooting, but I am fairly convinced it's an issue on her computer. It may be a video driver, since she only recently upgraded her video driver. I may try rolling back to a former version. Windows updates have also been known to cause her issues. We attempted to roll it back a bit, but she had some major problems with her Norton junk after doing the restore.. so we had to undo that. DAMN computers!!!!! Cavey Actually when it happens next. Also do an ipconfig /all to get your ip and more importantly your gateway ip. Then do a traceroute by typing tracert followed by the gateway ip. That will show you how many hops it takes to get to the gateway from your machines, and any device IPS it passes through. That would help. I did this before, but didn't know what to look for. I have the print outs of each, and possibly will scan them and post them. I will do the traceroute stuff too when I get a chance this week. Thanks for the help so far. I know we will beat this, I'm just not very familiar with network setup stuff.

Just to update those who have given us advice... So far, we have eliminated the router as the issue. I disconnected all connections but her computer to the router, with no change. Plugged her into another port, with no change. Then, I eliminated the router all together and plugged her directly into the modem, with no change. Keep in mind that I have no ping issues when connected to the router (other than spikes when bandwidth is being sucked up by my kids). It appears that it is her computer. She is currently going to restore back as far as she can (Jan 15th or so) to before the last windows update that loaded on her laptop. We are hoping for the best. Any new suggestions?

I love 'The Pro's and Con's of Hitchhiking'. Ah, when I was a wee lad.. many a evening spent bleary eyed listening to that beautiful music.

PimpedOutPete greywolf2 Have you removed xfire completely or did a manual update? +1 Nope, but we will try that next.
-
I've ensured that she's not looking at one of the old ACE mod IP's. It is our current server she is looking at. It's weird. My xfire shows it just fine, the current map and players.. but her's is just stuck. We've deleted it and both manually set it, and clicked the xfire thingy on the front page for that server. May have to post on xfire website forum.

Just starting today, I keep getting an error when trying to play the mod. I dumped the file, and redownloaded.. and still get the error. I dumped the entire mod file, redownloaded.. and STILL get the error. Help!!!! Impure client detected. Invalid .iwd file. C/blah blah blah/Mods/ximw211111/zz_weapons_snipe_rifle.iwd I tried pasting in the folder, shown in the error, the copy of the same file from virtualstore, but it doesn't work. The odd thing is the path shown in the error doesn't exist. There is no 'ximw211111' file in the mods folder in the path shown in the error, only in virtualstore (until I pasted it in there).

Cool. These are all good suggestions. I gotta work tonight, will look at these in the morning Thanks so much for the replies. I'll let you all know the results.

PimpedOutPete Entering the witness protection plan are u Bama? I'm not sure your new alas will convince anyone it's not u... Ssssshhhhhh! NO ONE will figure it out!!!!! HAhahahaha

Well, my PC isn't supposed to be the primary connection. The modem is connected to the router, and we are all plugged into the router, so the connection shouldn't be shared through me, just available to anyone who plugs in to the router. As far as something going bad, are you talking about the modem or the router?

Ferret Bama and am a rabid Alabama Football fan. Yeah - I've heard that a lot of Tide fans have rabies. So do Ferret's.

TheLastColdBeer Does this mean you're a full-time Bama? BTW how did you survive the latest batch of tornadoes? Yes, full time now I didn't get any tornadoes. I actually live in South Carolina ...ironic, isn't it? I was 'borned and raised' in Alabama, and am a rabid Alabama Football fan.

I have now changed my name from "PT-Bama" to "Bama". This has been done in agreement with and by Rockape>XI<Adm and all records have been updated.
