  1. Whatever they are going to call it. Is it going to be better then UT3? That was a good game, weird but I liked it. Didn't like how rocket lanchers ruled the game. BioRifles worst then Enforcers, lol. Hopefully after some balancing it will be epic win. Thoughts?
  2. Evolve gives out advertisements sometimes for free version. You can hear them too. Plus that server busy thing is still happening. Uninstalled it. My clan is sticking to steam and website for now. Though Razer Comms might still be an option down the road. You guys mind as well pick ether: 1) Razer Comms 2) Steam 3) Orgin Doesn't seem to be a solid front runner pick. Hold your noise and vote for the lesser of the three evils? Left Rapr some feedback when I uninstalled it. Hopefully they get the hint and add in group text chat, along with ditching dead ActionScript/Flash.
  3. Just emailed network staff at GameFront/Filefront. Asked them if they had any plans to redo their local sites (CoD, Source ect.). Was told that not only they were not doing that, they laid off all of there editorial staff and archived the main GameFront Site. The question is who is left besides GameBanana, MegaGames, and ModDB? ModsOnline = mainly used for forums, old website and uploader doesn't work well. Fileplanet = Archived Map-n-mods = inactive or archived Perhaps starting up my own website for my mods would be the most viable option. MegaGames takes a long time to approve files and Gamebanana has some rude people there. Can only really count on ModDB at this point. I still work on CoD/UO Mods, along with CoD2. Not sure what the best option is now; host website via wix or go the PHP forum website route.
  4. Anyone willing to give a informative review of GSC, Raid Call, and or HLSW Chat. Regard last post. My clan's leader said he had issues with Evolve's overlay being buggy in Windows 7. Right now Razer Comms out of the tested ones seems the most viable since overlay works and it's available on smart phones too. It's owned by the guys who make those gaming mice and keyboards. Should be a well funded project that will not go bell up like Xfire did, well as long as it's popular. Probably would vote for Razer Comms but waiting until GSC, Raid Call and HLSW Chat have been vetted.
  5. I reviewed a few options due a clan I'm tossing around the idea of using an xfire like client. Perfect timing, I can give you guys some insight Already used Skype, Evolve and Raptr. My clan leader tested Razer Comm. We still have not settled on a solid winner. Perhaps we will just pick the lesser of the four evils. Evolve might be worth holding your noise and voting for as notification noise is not that bad. It also have a group text chat feature, unlike Raptr. Raptr's downfall was requiring the dying Adobe Flash plugin (seriously?), and no group text chat. Skype lacks in-game overlay, search and join games, might be fine for other kinds of games such as browser but not FPS games. Both Raptr and Evolve don't having working overlays in Windows XP, a major flaw for older game clans. Razer Comms is not for Win XP which is worst. Tested it in CoD, CoDUO and CoD2. None of the overlays worked. Evolve even states overlay works with Vista or higher. If I was to rank them on my opinion up what tier: Tier 1: Evolve Razer Comms Tier 2: ??? Tier 3: Raptr Tier 4: ??? Tier 5: Skype (unless you guys go RTS/MMO this will not win) If you guys are going to move away from older games then forget about XP support. It's well known that XP is now abandonware. Maybe you guys can make all divisions switch to your replacement excluding the CoD2 division due to them possibility having old PC's.
  6. X-Ray brought up a good point, you guys want a suitable replacement that is very similar to Xfire. XI probably wants a replacement that 100% of membership will use, rather then 40% Steam, 30% Origin, and 30% haters of Steam/Origin. Some member might not use Origin or Steam due not needing it for some games. Raptr = search games, add friends, group text chat?, add games to favorites? Evolve = search games, add friends, group text chat?, add games to favorites? HLSW = search games, add games to favorites, group text chat?, add friends? Find out the better of the three?
  7. I haven't tried all of the programs in the poll. However, I find Xfire to be less viable then Skype or Steam or Orgin. Heard they are a few Steam haters here. Steam already has in-game texting like Xfire, plus it's kinda like origin from information I read. Origin might be a solid second option if there is enough Battlefield players in XI and enough Steam haters. The wildcard is Skype; has online and offline messaging but can't buy games with it. Can be set to Do Not Disturb to stop hamster noise. Can make Skype groups but you guys already got a good forum. If you had enough anti-DRM people rebel against Origin or Steam, this is the likely dark horse pick. OverWolf is like a perinatal presidential candidate that never wins. It's geared towards MMO games and has few FPS games it will work in as an overlay. If I was to cast my vote now, I'd vote for Orgin if XI was moving towards Battlefield Series, or vote Steam if XI was moving towards Steam games. If XI was divide on the issue I'd vote for both Origin and Steam as requirements. Each division would have it's own requirements for each game. Battlefield games would require Origin, while new CoD's would require Steam. I'm not in XI, but sitting_ PM me about this thread. Different Divisional requirements seem like the best move, unless there is a clear winner here.
  8. As for the dead bunny, would he taste better in lemon sauce like Bunny Francaise , or BBQ with Sweat Baby Ray Sauces? If we got enough eggs left maybe Cream Brulee for desert.
  9. Skype is probably the best option for faster communication during the development process. You can't relay on message boards that are too complex or people not reading them. Skype can be on PC 24/7, set to "do not disturb" and the noise is gone but still get notification. Text chat via Skype eliminates the whole timezone problem. Keep the development team lean and mean. If it's too large it's ineffective. Too small it lacks the proper resources to complete the task. Development gameplan always changes a bit. Have other ideas in mind when these road block pop up. You might come up with a great idea but it might not work out due to engine or too it's complex. There needs to be centralized leader of the indie's development; the most skilled XI modder you can find. The second best pick is his right hand man.
  10. Turbosquid has tons of 3d models you can acquire for free, low cost, or expensive rare stuff. You just have to search a bit to find the right deal. Most if not majority of the models are licensed under the following licenses: Extended License: Can use in one project free or paid. I.e: indie game or mod Extended License but clearance for some usage: Should be Ok if work is original. Most companies allow their stuff in video games like firearms, tanks, vehicles ect. Editorial License: Avoid this as this is not the right license. Find out if UE4 supports high poly (over 15k) models, before shelling out some cash though. Btw there are some free texture sites and turbosquid also has some. I've ported turbosquid models to CoD2 (for Merciless Mod 2). Going to code the in-game later. Sound Artists shouldn't be hard to find. As for weapon sounds you might be able to purchase a license for usage in a game. Or maybe find public domain weapon sounds?. Voice over people should be a problem. Modelers, someone who knows Blender 3D very well. Forget finding someone with Maya or 3d Studio Max, these guys are looking for tons money to off set there high start up cost (modeling software). Blender is free and plenty good. Find some who knows it or is a fast learner? Coders, need like 2 people for this spot. The lead developer and the co-developer. Also could help if these guys were "well rounded", can export/animate models, make maps, voice overs/announcer voice. Don't have to do all of those but the more the better.
  11. If you guys can make an indie with a the right elements it will be worth it. It's just got to have something those AAA games are missing. Like an FPS game were you fight air, land, and sea. Or something addictive like freeztag or a revival game. Or a game heavily teamwork based, class based system gametypes such as domination (like TF2 control point), ctf, lts ect. Merciless Mod(s) for CoD/UO/CoD2 hit into the class based realism niche market. The only reason they didn't really take off was: 1) Blood mod + taunts racked up the file size like crazy, 2) Merciless Mod v6 was abandoned at experimental stage and development team moved to UO development. 3) Max_gamestate_chars was an issue sometimes with Merciless Mod UO if 20+ players or too many custom weapon and such. 4) Merciless Mod 2 v2.00 had a major bug, rotating message script would crash server. Could only host a unpure server (until V3.3) Something like Merciless Mod would have worked as an indie better since it wouldn't be held back by CoD series slower in-game download speeds. Also if you had a really good total conversion mod idea, make it an indie instead? TC mods never seem to hold popularity in older game, Sure SWAT Mod and Zombie mods were popular for a while. But died down and smaller minimods are the most popular today.
  12. Here about any new mods coming out for COD, UO, CoD2, CoD4, CoDWAW or Black Ops I? Or mods that just came out recently? Post them below Black Ops I: UTC (combat training mod) CoD4: Modern Promod: Seems to be a realism mod remake. I think it might have something to do with weapon recoil balances. Based from Promod? Modern Harderned: ??? Frontlines R3l4d Realism and new gametype mod? CoDWAW: Doesn't seem to be any active mod projects outside of XI and private servers. CoD2: Back2Front Many new weapons and such. The never ending CoD2 mod project. Hope they do release it though. Merciless Mod 2 V3.3 Class based realism mod. Was revised big time from last version. Future development paused for now, and will resume soon. ENB Enhanced Updates the game engine's abilities a little. CoD/UO: Revolt Revamped (Cross release planned) [CoD/UO/] [MP/SP] Revised Revolt Mod forked from Revolt 5x and turned into a class based system but why? Because I used to play on a Merciless Mod UO server and it dawned on me. Class based system is the way to go in terms of realism and teamwork. Many new features if good will be ported over to other mods. It's a middle eastern themed total conversion mod with modern weapons. I'm expecting a developmental release around April-June, but things take time. Many proposed new features such as new maps (going try to map again but simple maps), new gametypes, class special options (drop medcrate, drop ammocrate, drop tnt, drop mine ect.). Multiple zoom levels for full zoom and miniscope via M key toggle.
  13. Old CoD's are great, plan and simple. CoD, UO, CoD2, CoD4, and CoDWAW all have great things about them. Mainly the mods and custom map support, being a mod dev/mapper makes you truly part of the community. Playing a game with the same 15 maps and no mods for 4 years will get old. Plus these games are not major resource hogs, great for budget gamers with single video card setups. Ride it out as long as you can, or until only 5% of XI still wants the CoD2/CoD4/CoDWAW servers because they are playing Battlefield 8 or something.
  14. UE4 is based on C++ 11 (I believe). It is NOT based on UnrealScript. Once you sign up with Epic Games, they give you access to source code via github (which is some software website kinda like a private sourceforge). You will also get access to a sample framework or two according to there website. For Cryengine, I'd inquire with Crytek regarding it. They have two options for CryEngine (latest) the $20/mo plan and partnership (geared to AAA devs). The don't state whether they give out source code (inquire about it) There is also the free CryEngine 3 Dev Kit (missing the source code?) FPSCreator is another option, they do sell frameworks on website but no information regarding source code.
  15. The old CoD series master servers been messed up for months. People are still playing till the end. If they take them away we will manually connect to server or use third party software (GameRanger?) to get there. It's getting so bad with CoD and UO, someone is making a CoD + UO combined remake called "Call of Duty: Origin of Honor" not sure if it's for real though. No information regarding a studio or indie release. Perhaps this is a last ditch effort to save CoD+UO for another 3 yrs before it dies out. More like a band-aid on a missing limb but I guess if he wants to buy everyone another few more years, why not? As for CoD4 did they ever restart master server? because I didn't re-install yet. Last time I had CoD4 MP1.7 installed most servers where bot servers. CoD2 went down from like 300+ servers to 94 in three months. Master server probably can't even read half of the servers. CoDWAW probably isn't effected by this right? haven't played that in a while too. Not many opportunities outside of XI servers. But might re-install if you guys are still active in it. I know a video game community that is flirting with the idea of dropping all five of their CoD servers (AWE, SWAT MOD, Voodoo, Stock, Jumps) due to master server madness. It's more like a secondary division to them anyways, they can do without it.
  16. Unreal Engine 4 is free. With source code and sample framework of a game (via github). Only have to pay 5% royalty on games you sell. I believe it comes with a map editor like UDK. Not an option for me right now due to system resources, but you all might be interested in it. Not sure what the deal is the UDK/UE3. I don't believe you can get both the source code and a FPS framework for free.
  17. I played it and it's awesome. You can deploy sentry guns, and robots. Plus other "perks". I was on some foreign server so I didn't figure out how to use the perks due to language barrier. In other versions of this Mod (a Sniper Clan) has it so you can collect dog tags to get your kills registered. Below is a large list of changes from V2.8 to V2.9 http://modsonline.com/Forums-top-164103.html
  18. I was watching a Bender3d video on Youtube. Doesn't seem too hard, tons of steps to make something but if your are visual learner it's doable. It's free software and doesn't seem too verbose. I wouldn't want to shell out a few hundred dollars for Maya then get mad and give up. For Example 1 the UFE Robot fighting game, I don't think Maya would be needed. Unless Bender3d is Unity (UFE) unfriendly, it will have to do. The UFE engine is not all the eye candy AA/AF, Photo realistic, like UE4/Id Tech 5/ Cry Tek (Latest). The UFE Robot game would basically have graphics around PlayStation 2. Which is pretty good for indie considering some are just side-scrolling (insert bits here) So I think my next move is to watch some YouTube and make some basic weapon models (eventually high poly models). Like an axe, baton, dagger(s), military knifes, ninja swords, mace ect. I'll move to character models later. Moddb and Gamebanana are were I'll post the the game neutral weapon and player models. Guys are a bit outspoken on Gamebanana, I think I'll get an honest response on whether my stuff is polished or not. Also Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) is $19/month plus royalties on sales (forget percent). Monthly fee applies to whole development team. I read that the UDK which is UE3 is without monthly charge and no royalties for free games. You could upgrade from UDK to UE4 anytime I believe. However, UE4 is a resource hog which rules it out for the time being. I need to try to create more of my own work, rather then derivative work. It takes true talent to make a map, or a model from scratch ect.
  19. I wanted to make some more CoD series mods, but it appears the Call of Duty and United Offensive Master Servers are shut down. I have considered a single player mod like Revolt for CoD1 SP, but the game is so old I might get like five or less people commenting on it. So I wouldn't have a clue if anyone really liked it on not. Perhaps I should just make an Indie? at least there is a large community there. If my game is garbage they'll let me know. My issue right now is I'm not a grand master in any skill set in the game development scene. I can do limited scripting but wasn't formally trained in C++ or whatever is the needed language. I know my way around picture editing software but not a professional artist. Tried CoD mapping and failed (would be willing to trying mapping on another engine though). I got Blender3d but wasn't formally trained to make models. Haven't tried animation yet. My Indie game ideas: 1) Universal Fighting Engine (UFE) based Robot fighting game (Like 'Rise of the Robots' with 100% different material and name) 2) Modern FPS single player game. (Based from Unreal Engine 3/UDK) Let me know your two cents. If you think I should do a UT3 mod then covert it to an Indie, or so forth. Post a comment bellow.
  20. Close call then. I mean Crosshair has DDR3 2400 (OC) support and better onboard sound. Yet the Sabretooth is $55 cheaper. If your going to make use of the DDR3 2400 (OC) support then it's worth the extra $55. Might want to consider getting a Recon3d sound card as EAX 5.0 is creative exclusive. ASUS only has old legacy versions of EAX support in their video cards. But for most games like CoD Series, any onboard sound card will do for now. It just seems like current generation games are really starting to push for DX10 sound cards.
  21. OP, it's your call but AM3+ is pretty much abandonware. I mean that in the sense that AMD isn't making AM3+ CPU's support faster RAM memory ect. The only advantage that the AM3+ has it is 6 to 8 core support. Most current generation games require quad core at most. The AM3+ Socket supports up to DDR3 1600 without overclocking, Not sure how high it can go beyond DDR3 1866. FM2+ Supports up to DDR3 2133, built in graphics (don't need that). MSI seems to have made the best gaming FM2+ mobo specs wise. Below is a link to a custom build, never made it myself, but that's how I'd most likely do it. You might be able to save cash but picking different video card(s), getting used hard drive, different chassis et al. Build is missing PSU, just pick modular or semi modular, pick wattage based on usage. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zyLcRB If you have to pick ether two mid range video cards or one high end video card. Might want to go for the single card option if on a budget.
  22. Actually now that you brought up $50 as your price range, the Retron 3 is around $45 on ebay. The Retron 3 retails for $69.99 but since it's been out for some time you can get it for less. You'd be stuck using stock original controllers since the wireless IR ones in the Retron 3 are terrible from what I read. Plus it's got composite out so it's black and white on HDTV but color on CRT TV's. If you got a old CRT TV and want to just use the original controllers anyways. Then this is something to consider. There is also the Retro-Bit Super Trio which has a MSRP of $69.99. It's a direct competitor of the Retron 3 as it supports the same game cartridge types (NES, SNES, GENESIS).
  23. Hyperkin just released the Retron 5 a day or so ago. It's $200 instead of $100 like they projected. Although the specs are good and it's really the only option for retro gaming on a HDTV. (Composite cables show up black and white picture on competent cable). It has HDMI out, wireless bluetooth controller, hard drive ect. Anyone going to buy the Retron 5? Haven't decided yet, I might not get my $200 worth though. When I bought the Call of Duty games, with all the multiplayer hrs I could say the money was well spent. For those who don't know what a Retron 5 is, it's a retro cartridge game emulator. Plays NES,SNES, FAMI, Super FAMIcom, GENESIS, Sega Master System (with converter), and Gameboy Advanced. It suppose to be a big jump from Retron 3 since it's got much better wireless controllers, more game type support, game saves, ect. Not sure if it plays Master System cards, but Sega Genesis console does with the power base converter. I'd wish they'd add N64 cartridge support so I can play Battle Tanx again. But then again N64 didn't really take off so they might not add that in the next Retron (insert number here).
  24. If was going to do a new build today I'd probably pick a AMD A88x motherboard. It supports DDR3 2133 which is as big plus. With those Intel socket motherboards, only flagship cpu's can handle anything over DDR3 1600. If you are on a budget opt for matx or mitx motherboard, but make sure the case has room a for dual slot graphics card. Might want to check out the ASUS z97i-Pro vs A88x matx/mitx boards. http://pcpartpicker.com/ Go the that link to cross compare parts. It even weeds out parts that you can't use from the list.
  25. What's the point? so two guys can lose $10+ a month on hosting fees. Joke is on them, lol.
