  1. Have you guys considered switching mods for this server? It's been rarely used by XI. Last time I saw it used was like a year or so ago. That was I last time I played on it. The choice is up to you guys but I'll throw out a few suggestions. 1) Mod free server with custom maps 2) Rifles Only server. No scope rifles, one shot kills ect. (PlusIce's Rifles Only v2.1) 3) Merciless Mod Server. 155mb download for latest version (Merciless 2 v3.2 or Merciless 2 v2.00) 4) Zombie mod server? I'm in the process of getting the files from BraXi's CoD2 Zombie Mod. I'm going to take the Quake 3, Half Life and other copyrighted stuff out so a newer version can be released publicly without any copyright issues. Some mod host sites interpret porting some game material over to other games as copyright infringement. I though the Quake 3 stuff rendered poorly in CoD2 anyways.
  2. There are better sound cards then integrated realtek. For Win 7/8 computers Creative Sound Blaster Recon3d Series. Some X-FI have good reviews but some are lower end. For Win XP you can go with Audigy 2 zs PCI, I can vouch and say it's a great card. But too old to run on Vista and newer. Some people like ASUS Xonar but it has mixed reviews. If you are looking for Directx 10 compatible sound cards, you might be out of luck. I'll keep digging but it appears no one says if their cards are directx or not. It all comes down to what features you want and intended usage (studio, gaming, recording ect.) Well we already know you'll game with it. Edit: ASUS Xonar just emulates old EAX 3/2 and adds DTS support. EAX is compatible with Directx/Directx audio, so get a Recon 3d (latest EAX 5.0 HD) instead since they are cheap enough online. No sense in getting Xonar and settling for second best when you can have flag ship.
  3. I'm not part of XI, but was in a few video game clans. If you hack, odds are you don't get a second chance. However, if you did something like mouth off, go crazy with color binds, swear to much ect. Then maybe depending on the clan they might give you a second chance if you got another CD key. Some might even let you play on the server under same name. This happened to a former friend of mine. I don't think giving hackers a second chance is a good idea. In my experience gaming, anyone who offers to stop hacking and play fair, just lies threw their teeth. Not saying this is the current situation but I'd venture to say 9 out 10 times this could be true.
  4. I play Black Ops. Don't have the DL yet though. I doubt XI wants to run a CoDBO server again, the game doesn't have mapping tools so you can't make custom maps for it. There is only like three or so mods for CoDBO. Graphics are good and it isn't as flawed as MW2, MW3, Ghost and BO2. I wish IW/Treyarch would just fork the Id Tech 5 Engine (with permission). Then future releases would be so less flawed and more badass.
  5. Punkbuster Legacy doesn't work anymore. I tired to a few times today and yesterday. It just auto updates, there is no way to get the files for legacy games via this method. Once it auto updates you can't get pb update for the said game. Evenbalance should reconsidered and support CoD4 again.
  6. Hey I want to give working on labyrinth another go. Version 2.0 for CoD2 has spawn bugs since the spawn points didn't go were I wanted them. People spawning in walls, darn it. Version 1.0 is fine since I just decided to overwrite the CoD Spawn points, and didn't add any new ones. Labyrinth doesn't have any custom models or prefabs so this should be an easier port. I want to port Labyrinth for the following games: Call of Duty 4 Call of Duty WaW Call of Duty 2 (redo from v1 or redo from scratch) Going to start the port to CoD4 first. I need to know if headquarters uses TDM spawn points, how to get helicopter into game for testing, and do I need to add Sabotage and SD? I think I'll go with dynamic lighting, one huge light for ground level. Static lights for underground. I saw a tutorial on lighting on Modsonline so I should be fine with that. The walls are one large texture on each side, I think a bunch of small textures repeating would look weird. I should go for the largest textures and stretch it for the walls? I have no mods in CoD4, and latest mod tools installed. Latest patch installed. Going to just overwrite the CoD spawn points and switch to CoD4 spawn points. Don't want anyone else spawning in the walls again, lol.
  7. Make sure the ammo names in the weapons/mp file are different. If the two different weapons have same ammo names and different max ammo/start ammo or different clip size, you'll have a problem. Might want to give different ammo names for the two just to be on the safe side. That's at least hows it's done in Revolt Mod for CoD/UO. The original developers made it so each weapon had a different ammo name. Even MP5 and MP5 silenced didn't share the same ammo name.
  8. File has been uploaded to gamebanana. Waiting for approval at Moddb. http://cod2.gamebanana.com/gamefiles/3698 I rarely use COD Utility as they are just maps only, last time I checked. I could use some more mirrors. Strategy Informer and Modsonline are not active. Modsonline seems to only care about MODSonair and neglected the hosting part. Is there any other sites besides gamebanana, moddb and COD Utility that I might want to host files on? After the whole filefront almost shutdown thing, CoDFiles (Callofduty.filefront) has been dead due to bugs on the site.
  9. Wow, this is terrible. I was thinking about getting Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead. Someone needs to release an unofficial patch with new master server (if allowed in EULA) and give the finger back to those lazy bums. I'd wait on downloading the unofficial patch unless it's from a legit mod site. The only issue is due to secuROM you can only install Crysis once I believe, if it's the retail box version. So if you go with the unofficial patch and EA changes it's mind and release new official patch then your stuck with what you got. That's if your unwilling to do the illegal route. If BF2 is going to get updated, why is Crysis being throw to the curb?
  10. If it's randomly rebooting, check the power supply. Try booting in Safe Mode like loader said. Also some versions of windows such as Vista have recovery mode, takes you back to last known working configuration.

    tower

Bought myself two CM Stacker 830 Chassis back in the day. Good case but no longer the latest and greatest. There are many other out there with cpu cutout, more water cooling friendly, and larger fans/more airflow. If I was in the market for another computer build I'd consider: HAF XB (cube shaped) HAF XM (Larger sized Mid Tower) Or any brand name chassis, with good airflow design. I would avoid most MATX cases since it's hard to mange in them if you have large hands. Stay clear away from non gaming cases with only two fans. Don't cheap out on important parts such as Chassis, PSU, and overall guts of the pc. Though if there is lower speed CPU that's almost as good as a next one up, and cheaper go for it. Building PC's can be a fun adventure but it's not always cheaper to build vs buy prebuilt gaming rig. Here are some reason why to build: 1) You want to avoid having Windows 8 on your new rig. 2) Want to be in control of your rig. 3) Like to work with hands. 4) Looking for a new adventure I'd have to advise against this nano-pc for gaming. I heard bad things about Intel HD 4000 ect. Perhaps in the future but let someone else be the guinea pig.
  12. Yeah, but the model renders fine without them. I wounder why those two were added into the CoD2 file system. Maybe they give more shiny render with AA and AF? I keep AA and AF off in CoD2. Due to a compatibility bug that renders the game unplayable with those settings.
  13. I managed to port a weapon model over from CoD to CoD2. It's a Frag Nade from CoD SWAT Mod. Turned out pretty good aside from the color of the grenade being a brighter green. Perhaps this is because I only used the color map (UV Mapped Skin) and not those gray scale skins. Not sure how the other SWAT Mod weapons would render under CoD2 but there is only one way to find out. Below is the attached picture of the grenade. I didn't add any custom animation as it didn't come with it. Once I get around to it I'll post a tutorial on Moddb and Gamebanana on how to do this. I might add those two grayscale images in if they help the UV map render better. I noticed that the Asset Manager only has room for one color map. So the model you are porting over must have the UV mapped skin on one single file. I plain to port over all of the grenades from CoD SWAT Mod to CoD2. Doubt the primary and secondary weapons would turn out that well but I could try them later on. Edit: render is fine checked it against CoD SWAT Mod and brightness is the same. Just hadn't played SWAT in forever.
  14. Darn it, I got a 8800 GTS 320mb. Knew I should have got the 512mb version. Sorry to go slightly off topic, but did they fix that glare problem in BF3? Because I played Bad Company 2 + Vietnam addon and the screw up lighting made the game unplayable. This was on Xbox 360, was playing it over uncle's house. I could get BF3 now and install later. I think I have an origin account. Or is PS3 Origin different then PC Origin?
  15. Who the clan truly is, happens to decide whether they are great or not. Sure if they have a nice server with custom maps and stuff that's a plus. But if they are not ran properly then they go down the toilet. The many deciding factor is who are they recruiting. If the incoming new regime is a bunch of drama queens then the clan is screwed.
  16. I use the following sites to host my game files: Moddb Gambanana COD Utility (Maps) The following mirrors are inactive right now: Strategy Informer Modsonline Callofduty.filefront Though I might be able to just post files directly on gamefront?
  17. My favorite was a CoDWaW custom mod clan. We had a hard time filling up the server so we'd play elsewhere. Which made expansion impossible. I took some time off then when I came back the CoDWaW division was gone. Only like four people from the division were left in the clan aside from me. The clan is still around but phasing out. There wasn't any drama and I believe we had a good leader. Too bad the clan spread themselves thin opened up a bunch of divisions in newer games. My most hated former clan was one I formed, lol. It was called Advanced Tactical Squadron =[ATS]=. Although I had managerial experience in a previous video game clan I made some blunders. 1) Didn't get a good website for the clan 2) Had too large of a ranking hierarchy. Used Military Ranks. 3) Recruited too aggressively, open entrance into ATS. 4) Could have picked more experienced second leader. 5) We played Call of Duty, which was still old at the time. 6) Allowed 100% of the financial burden to be placed on me. ex: game server costs. ATS is defunct btw. Please leave clan name anonymous if there are still around, don't want to advertise for other clans. Might be a good idea to leave leaders/admins names anonymous when talking about the former clan(s).
  18. I'm always ready for a good SWAT Game. I played Call of Duty SWAT Mod back in the day. I sold my copies of SWAT4, never installed it. Had a joke of a gaming rig back then. I heard it was a great game though. Had two SWAT4 retail boxes. Was going to give one to a friend, but the video game clan fell apart and everyone parted ways.
  19. Switched over to the old school headset and it works fine with CoD2 in-game Voice Chat.
  20. I like to play on the CoD2 XI servers. My in-game alias were: Omega, and Failed Guitarist. I think Warmonger sounds better so I might stick with that. I'm 25 years old from New Jersey and I like to play CoD Series games. I used to play bass guitar hence the name failed guitarist. Which the people who don't like the bassists call them. I retired from playing Supremacy 1914, just can't enjoy it like a good custom server. At one time I played on the XI servers on the old gaming rig, It has been retired. I now run CoD games on a custom built gaming pc. I enjoy making my own mods. I tried to port a map to CoD2 but messed up on spawn points. My developer name is: PlusIce Well that's it. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'd like to get to know you guys more. Perhaps some of those mad mapping skills you XI fellas got is going to rub off on me. I'll return the favor and let my modding skills rub off on you guys. Btw: I'm going to try to get that in-game CoD2 voice chat to work for me. Perhaps Windows Vista doesn't like usb headsets? I'll try some old school jack ones.
