  2. did they really? Youtube pisses me off sometimes... the video quality isn't even good on youtube.
  3. Here is my drive up to and back from the observatory. It was a beautiful day! I used the same camera and lens. @@iboomboom
  4. Still not as big as it once was mate... #theGoodOlDays
  5. We listened to a 1/2hr history lesson on it. (sadly no demonstrations) It was really cool! The telescope was originally completely mechanical. It has a weight driven clock mechanism in the center bit that counter acts the earth's rotation. VERY COOL. Just a beautiful piece of elegant engineering. The wooden floor is on hydrolic jacks that raise and lower the floor. In all the columns surrounding the floor there are counter weights rigged to pulleys to help hold the weight. To keep the floor from becoming uneven, there are torsion axles that run across through the floor and link up to linear gears on the columns. This keeps each side moving up and down at the same speed. Oh, and the hydrolic jacks are driven by the potential energy stored in a water tank nearby. (at a slightly higher elevation) A wind turbine pumps the water up into the water tank from a natural spring at the top of the mountain. So beautiful.
  6. Just visited lick observatory again... Still learning how to lens correct this 8mm rokinon.
  7. just name it @@hxtr

  9. Did you ever have the great fortune to try windows ME? lolololol
  10. @@hxtr did you ever do this as a kid?
  11. I love these tek talks. It's the only podcast thing I listen to regularly. In this episode they talk a lot about Win10 data collection and what they can do within the bounds of the EAULA. It's terrifying. There's absolutely no way I'm getting win10. No sir. I've already found linux software for almost everything I do so I'll be making my permanent switch to linux as a primary very soon.
  12. I wouldn't drop tags so easily... It doesn't take much effort to just hang onto them. Just log into the website once a month. You don't even have to post anything.
  13. lol, what did I just read? bahahahaa
  14. you give up your privacy alarmingly easily...
  15. Best of luck! I'm sure you'll do a great job picking up where we left off.
  16. Do they though?
  17. It's simply the smallest measurement of distance that matters. If you wanted to simulate the universe in a digital simulation, you would have to simulate it down to this precision and no further.
  18. ever heard of Planck's length? It's the only evidence we have that we live in a simulation.
  19. Oh God.... wipe it off before it starts growing things... that's just nasty!
  20. hehehe... well, when you put it THAT way... (it's not just nasa though... basically the entire scientific world has been pretty skeptical... it's just like when those people thought they had made neutrinos go faster than light. It would have broken the laws of physics and it turned out to be faulty equipment.)
  21. You seem to like the taste well enough...
  22. Yep, pretty much... When a service is free... you're the product and they are selling YOU. https://xkcd.com/528/
