I'm digging the new look/feel of the website
Sitting-Duc replied to TeknonTheos's topic in Website Discussion
I'm not expecting it to work for everyone and am open to suggestions of change, any suggestions @Damage_inc- -
1. Nope 2. Yep 3. We did 4. Not sure what you're talking about?

The first stage of the upgrade is now completed. You can expect aspects of the website not to work exactly right yet as there is still a fair amount to do. Some posts will not look right until the background processes have completed rebuilding everything. If something is majorly broken then post here. If you see a missing feature wait a week and if it doesn't appear then post here.

Hello all - this is an announcement to give you some warning that we will be doing a major upgrade to the website and what to expect. First of all the why we are making the change - simply the current version is no longer supported for security updates and generally it's just nice to have a revamp every so often. We have had this website for a few years now. So when will this be happening - I am hoping either the weekend of the 25th, this will be a late start on the Friday and working through the weekend - an offline page will be in place during the upgrade to provide any updates. it's a very big upgrade and the process will be split up into a few stages: The initial stage will be to do the core features (such as the forums) which will take around a day of hard downtime Then we need to get the website looking right, so the chatbox, homepage, servers, awards etc. which will be about a day of intermittent downtime Then comes a huge task of rebuilding all of the content, this is an automated process but will take approximately a week before everything looks right. Finally comes the fixing everything 'that broke' time which will be a good few years i'm sure So how about the known problems and changes: If you have a different display name to your login name then you will have to use your display name to log in once the upgrade has completed. If you use either the Facebook or Steam logins this will also stop working - if you know this then send me a PM and we can sort it beforehand or otherwise contact me after.

But equally so.. one should not assume privacy when they give out their data..

@@hxtr You are completely right that nobody is secure - however you are saying it in a 'hyped' way which propagates the information in a 'fake news' kind of style. I have been on a couple of weeks of security training recently, the courses focused on securing application development and the application environments. The big thing that came out was that yes nobody or system is secure. HOWEVER you need to know your adversary and decide who you want to defend against. Of course we can say nobody is secure.. because with enough money you can get into any system (look at the San Bernardino iPhone cracking case). Troy Hunt does some very interesting security courses that are publicly available and give you a great overview of the conditions out there and he also discusses the information from Snowden and the wider security community. The key adversaries that you will come across are 'Nation States', 'Cyber-Criminals' and 'Hacktivists' - you can also have the 'Malicious Insiders' category. If a nation state wants to get in to your system it will undoubtedly be able to do that - but you have to question why they would want your midget porn. Cyber Criminals are really the only target for a standard type of user (such as the ones on this website) and Hacktivists only really go after companies and organisations. The Cyber Criminal category prefers entry into systems through social engineering, viruses and malware and although they can have huge amounts of funds they are using them for mass distribution. On the topic of antiviruses which is how this topic was started - they are generally protecting against the cyber criminal category as that is what the average user is doing. To protect against the nation state you require your own nation state to be doing the protecting - again not 100% protected but the cost of entry goes up. So in summary - yes @@hxtr you are right that you can never have a fully secure system but you can of course have levels. What you are saying is true but you are taking information out of context. I'm not sure why you are? perhaps to scare people? cause trouble? I don't get it.. Personally I have already signed my declaration to my government that they can have all of my data and access any of my systems. But you know.. I'm an idiot.

Yeah that's fair, I work in a very security conscious organisation and our security standards are made by the people that snoop on the UK population. As such I feel that their advice is probably whats best for me to keep my computer safe.

@@BigPapaDean without a doubt @@Sammy has the best advice in this thread: I have to say that I do disagree with @@djMot on his first post, especially as it is hugely more complex than the article that is linked to suggests. I also disagree with @@hxtr on his views on Microsoft and updating in general. But the question of 'who is right?' and who in general to believe? well that's not such a simple answer. I am not going to pretend that I have the credentials to give proper advice on this but in my humble opinion you are all trying to fit a single solution into something that requires a multitude of options. The evolution of both operating systems, application software and hardware has been because of the wide variety of PC users and how they are using them. The same goes for antivirus solutions. If I am doing lots of browsing of random websites and downloading from them then I want an AV that is doing full behavioural scanning which is a bit more resource intensive. Or if all I do is play a couple of games, visit a few websites and do some email then Defender would be OK for me.

Now that was fucking savage!

Do you know what your in-game GUID is please? Thanks, Nevermind - found the ban, the admin team will respond to you after discussion.

If there was enough money in the XI budget that would be great.. but I think it's a bit too much to ask..

Yes & Yes it would

@@Sonovabich Yeah so essentially what happened is that I set some config options for caching and minifying, they looked OK to me as my browser had cached the good version. Then the cache expired and I got the bad version (like you) so it all fucked up. However once I had put the fix in it required that the DNS for the thing I fucked up needed to change as well as all the file caches to expire. Hence clearing the local cache sorted it all out and removed the badly minified JavaScript.

@@Sonovabich Try clearing your local browser cache?

@@Sonovabich I've just done a fix but it may take time to propagate, also just uploaded an image and that is now working fine

Hey Chaps - tried to post this yesterday but the website was so broken that it didn't post lol So obviously the website was offline for a fair while and that affected the downloading of maps and mods for the servers. Essentially I broke it. In a bit more detail I was trying out some Hyper-V stuff and it went wrong and killed the server - this meant that we had to move everything over to a less fucked up server. I have done the majority of the main website stuff so if you do see something then please post here. Same for any map/mod/downloader issues. Sorry peeps.

Depending if you are going contract or buying outright I would suggest the OnePlus3 - its a mid range for price but with similar spec as a high end. Plus full day charge in 30 minutes!

It means that there is another active session registered with the master server for that keycode. Depends where you sourced the key really - easiest option is buy a new copy.

EU XI Fest - 21st to 23rd July 2017 in Berlin
Sitting-Duc replied to Sitting-Duc's topic in General Discussion
That's fine - Edd doesn't like me and we are both going -
Just popping in to say there is nothing realistic I can do about this.. doesn't affect our Discord server.

I have booked the flights so will definitely be there, arriving in Toronto on the 8th September and departing on the 19th. I plan on travelling for a few days before - probably up to Montreal and perhaps further up to Nova Scotia. If anyone has any suggestions then I would love to hear them, I have the five days before the fest and then perhaps one or two after (depending when things wrap up). Haven't booked where I am staying yet but will try and get that sorted once I have a better idea of my schedule.
